In this current dissertation, entitled“The Stone Works Collection of the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts”and written by M. Murat BOZCU, all of the stone works in the stock of the museum have been included into the scope of this study without any limitations of time and category. With this, it is aimed to bring out and publish this important collection as a corpus, in which consists of many unpublished works of art, and thus, to provide also an access for the researchers to this unique collection. This collection of the museum consists of a wide range of art works dated from Umayyad, Abbasid, Great Seljuk, Artuqid, Seljuks of Rum Dynasties to Anatolian Emirates and Mamluk periods along with all the periods of Ottoman Empire from the fifteenth century to the end. All of the above mentioned works of art have been scrutinized in the catalogue chapter as 408 catalogue pages. The periodical and categorical diversity of the works of art in the stone works collection of the museum makes it possible to follow and observe the development of the art of Turkish stone works through this prominent collection. The connection and relationship between the stone works collection in the museum and the arts in the pre-Islamic Turkish period is the most crucial result obtained from both in analysis of the museum's stone works collection and the research on the subject matter itself. The fundamental features of the figural decorations and plant ornamentations of the pre-Islamic Turkish art period, which had been originated during the Proto-Turkic cultural periods, developed in the periods of Hun and Gokturk Empires, and reached its peak during the Uyghur period, thereafter, also reflected its features to the periods of Karakhanid, Ghaznavid and Great Seljuk. These decorations and ornamentations had also been applied in the later periods such as Artuqid, Seljuks of Rum and Ottomans. This progress can be best observed through the works of art in the museum's stone works collection and therefore, it has been identified that the essential tradition of pre-Islamic art had been carried on its features to the later Anatolian-Turkish and even Ottoman arts.
