Özet
Gelişen bilim ve teknolojinin sosyo-kültürel ortam üzerinde yarattığı etkiler gözönünde bulundurulduğunda, hem birey olarak sanatçının, hem de onun sanatsal üretiminde kullandığı teknik, malzeme ve yöntemlerin bu etkilerden soyutlanmasının mümkün olamayacağı söylenebilir. Güncel yaşamı etkileyen her türlü buluşun, gelişmenin sanata dolayısı ile malzeme/medyuma dönüşmesi, mümkün gözükmektedir. Bu tür etkilerin sanatçının bakış açısına nasıl yön verdiği Güncel Sanat örneklerinde de görülebilir. 20. yüzyılın başlarında Çağdaş Sanatta fikre/düşünceye hizmet eden bir araç haline gelen nesnenin ilk örneklerinden biri Marcel Duchamp'ın ready made'leridir (hazır nesne). Bundan dolayı Çağdaş Sanatta, fikre hizmet eden her türden teknik ve malzeme sanat pratiklerine girer, böylece hazır nesne fikri teknolojiyi de içine almaya başlar. Bunun sonucunda hazır nesneler sanatsal üretimlerde daha çok kavramsal içerik taşımalarıyla sanatsal bir değer kazanır. Bu nedenle araştırma öncelikle Çağdaş Sanatta medyum/malzemenin kullanımı etrafında şekillendirilmiş, bu doğrultuda Çağdaş Sanatta medyumun rolü ve önemi ortaya konmuştur. Aynı zamanda çağdaş sanat bağlamında değişen-dönüşen biçim ve anlam arayışları medyum seçimindeki eğilimler ile ele alınarak, medyumların anlatım diline etkileri incelenmiştir. Araştırmada medyumun Çağdaş Sanat yapıtlarındaki rolü, sanat mecrasında kabul gören 27 sanatçının eserleri üzerinde ele alınmıştır. Araştırma betimsel bir yöntem ile yapılmış olup, araştırma bulguları sanatçı biyografileri ile eser incelemelerinin içerik analizlerinden elde edilmiştir. Temelde bu tezin ana problemi, Çağdaş Sanatta kullanılan medyumun dönüşümü ile sanat pratiklerindeki rolü, anlamı ve içeriğe yaptığı etkileri araştırmaktır. Sonuç olarak Duchamp'ın sanatta hazır nesne kullanması 1960'larda Çağdaş Sanatta yeni anlatı biçimlerinin önünü açmıştır. Bu anlatı olanakları zamanla iç içe geçen önermeler olarak fatklı sanat anlayışlarında da belirmiştir. Günümüz sanatında ise medyum çeşitliliğinden doğan sonuçlar, sanatı yeniden tanımlamaya ya da tartışmaya açma gerekliliği doğurmaktadır. Bu durumda çağdaş sanatçı için medyum bir öneri ya da anlatımın kendisi olur, yani sanatta medyum bir anlamda McLuhan'ın da dediği gibi“Araç değil amaç”haline gelmiş gibi gözükmektedir.

Considering the effects of the developing science and technology on the socio-cultural environment, it can be said that it is impossible to abstract both the artist as an individual and his techniques, materials and methods used in his artistic production from these effects. It can be seen in the examples of Contemporary Art that how contemporary life forms lead the art and thus the transformation, change and development of the medium. One of the first examples of an object that has become a tool to serve opinion / idea in Contemporary Art in the early 20th century is Marcel Duchamp's ready made objects. Therefore, in contemporary art, all kinds of techniques and materials that serve the idea enter into the artistic practices, so that the ready object begins to incorporate intellectual technology. As a result, such ready-made objects gain artistic value by carrying more conceptual content in artistic productions. For this reason, the research was primarily shaped around the use of medium/material in Contemporary Art, the role and importance of medium in contemporary art has been revealed in this direction. At the same time, The thesis dealt with the subjects such as the tendencies in the medium selection and medium selection in the direction of changing-transforming forms and meanings in the expression language of contemporary art. In the research, the role of the medium in contemporary artworks has been examined on the works of 27 artists who are accepted in the artistic circles. The research was done with a descriptive method and the research findings were obtained from the content analyzes of the artist biographies and the examinations of the works. In basically, the main problem of this thesis is to investigate the role, meaning and effects of the medium on content in the practice of art through the transformation of the medium used in Contemporary Art. As a result, Duchamp's use of ready-made objects in the art in the 1960s has opened up new forms of narrative in Contemporary Art. This narrative has also settled on different insights of art as proposals that are intertwined in time. In today's art, the consequences of varieties of medium selection are necessitating to redefine art or open discussion. In this case, the medium for the contemporary artist becomes a suggestion or narrative itself. In summary, it seems as if the medium has become“purpose, not a tool”as McLuhan has said.
