163 ABSTRACT BİLEN, Mehmet;“An Experiemental Research On The Nature Of The Hadith Knowledge Of The Imams Working For The. Presidency Of The Religious Affairs Of The Turkish Republic.”(Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Hayri KIRBAŞO?LU ) In this research we have tried to determine the nature and level of the knowledge of Imams in Hadith which is the second main source of Islam. After the theorical and library work and deciding what area of the subject to look for, a questionnaire was prepared and 213 imams of two cities replied. The questionnaire included biographical data, questions dealing with trustwarthy sources of Hadith and also in the areas of sound knowledge, proper manners of eating, woman, creation, Mahdi and gavb were asked. The research consists of an introduction and three chapters. In the introduction it was dealt with the subject matter, importance, goal and method of the research. In addition, common understanding of the Hadith in society today was dealt with briefly. In the first chapter, theorical and conceptual framwork of the research were determined and discussed. Also the concept of Sunnah and Hadith as contents of the Sunnah are dealt with. In the second chapter the findings of the research are presented and discussed. In this chapter the relationship between the type of education and the nature of their Hadith knowledge is dealt with. The third chapter consists of the conclusions and evaluation of the findings. The findings let us to the conclusion that in essence Hadith knowledge of Imams is largely based on apochrif hadiths.
