Özet (Çeviri)
Tree health is an important parameter traditionally derived from fıeld surveys for evaluating urban ecosystem health and sustainability. This study was designed to update existing Gulfport, Mississippi urban forest inventory and provide GIS techniques to determine hurricane Katrina related land use change and live oak health assessment. The previous GIS based urban ecosystem analysis was indicated that Gulfport city lost 20% canopy cover since 1990 due to urban sprawl and soil compaction stressors. The main goal of this research is to develop a geo-spatial model ofLive Oak population's health trend and post hurricane Katrina land use change between the years of 2001-2014. The specifıc objectives were: 1. Quantifying and correlating ground truth and remotely sensed tree health indicators such as chlorophyll content rate measured by SPAD meter and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). 2. Classifying live oaks' health condition (healthy, unhealthy) via multispectral image analysis. 3. Multispectral visualizing oflive oaks' classifıed health rate and land use between the years of2001-2014. 4. Quantifying live oak recovery rate and land use change by comparing pre and post hurricane multispectral images (April, 2001 - October, 2005-2009-2014). 5. Uploading project data and providing access through a web server for public in order to support further studies. Chlorophyll content data and remotely sensed vegetation index data were correlated and integrated into Landsat 7 and 8 ETM+ and MODIS sourced satellite images for spatial land use analysis and study site live oaks' health assessment. Results indicated that live oak canopy cover was decreased by 16.87% in total. Study site kept losing live oak canopy cover around 8.75% due to urban sprawl after hurricane Katrina. As a result, 11 years of urban sprawl's damage on vegetation cover is half ofhurricane Katrina's damage. There was a recovery rate determined for live oak population between the years of2005 and 2009, 2.33%, and between the years of2009-2014, only 0.17%. We can defınitely say human negligence and urban sprawl are the top stressors besides hurricanes. Land use change in Gulfport, MS showed us that inert and grass surface classes gained while vegetation surface cover decreased.
