Place names in Anatolia constitute a significant part concerning the studies on the Turkish language. Anatolia, which has been a center of settlement and passageway for various cultures throughout history, possesses lots of varied and rich language material relating to place names. These names which are important for both linguists and historians contribute significantly to the studies on geography, ethnology, folklore and archeology as well. One part of our place names are thoroughly Turkish words. These are the names which were either given soon after the Turkish conguest of Anatolia or later on during the studies aimed at forming Turkish words. An important part of our place names reveal the characteristics of the foreign languages by which our languge was affected from time to time. Additionally, we have place names remaining from Ancient times and Byzantium. This study is on the place names which are completely Turkish, and accordingly: Turkish place names have been formed in accordance with the general principles of the Turkish language. Nouns, adjectives, verbs, common inflections and derivations which417 are often used in Turkish have preserved their own characteristics. A large number of ancient and lovely words have been preserved in place names though place names are sometimes altered ignorantly.
