ABSTRACT The subject of“Verbs With Complex Tenses”which our thesis is based on, is one of the grammatical subjects that is nor sufficients examined nor explained, despite the variety in functions, usages and meanings of these tenses. Even in the books of our well known linguists, which are considered as basic reference books of grammatical researches and are used as lecturebooks in schools, this subject is never explained suf ficiently and the related rules have never been supported with sufficient examples. In section one we examined the sentence structure and syntax in Turkish language. !n section two, after giving information about the usage of verbs with complex tenses in grammar books, we observed the“past”,“perfect”and“conditional”forms of all tenses, their formation, functions and different meanings, the way and fre- guency of their usages in Turkish. We supported these by model sentences chosen from novels, stories and poems. In the last section, after a short evaluation of our study, we indicated that the importance of this subject must be well understood an greater attention must be given to its applica tion. Thus we put an end to our research by some suggertions about this subject. 107
