Özet

Birey doğumundan ölümüne kadar kadın ya da erkek olma özelliğine sahiptir. Bu durum cinsiyeti tanımlamakta olup değiştirilemeyen belirli biyolojik, bedensel özelliklere işaret etmektedir. Ancak birey toplum içinde var olmaya başladığı andan itibaren, bireye toplum tarafından bazı görevler ve roller yüklenir. Sosyal hayatta ne şekilde var olacağına, etkin olabileceği alanlara ve mekânlara dair bir takım kurallar vardır. Bu kuralların ya da yüklenen rollerin belirlenmesinde kalıpyargılar (stereotip/stereotypes) doğrudan etkilidir. Bütün bu kalıpyargılar ''Toplumsal Cinsiyet'' kavramını nitelemektedir. Değişen ve farklılaşan yaşam alışkanlıkları, toplumun bireye yüklediği rolleri de değiştirip dönüştürmüştür. Kadının ve erkeğin toplumsal rollerinin ve etki alanının değişmesi, mekâna dair karar alanlarını etkilemiş ve aynı zamanda mekânın organizasyonunun yeniden düşünülmesini gerektirmiştir. Bu değişimler, kentlere özel alan-kamusal alan ayrımı olarak yansırken, bu yansımanın en küçük ölçekte temsili ise konutlar olup, toplumsal cinsiyet kavramı ve özel-kamusal ayrımı, konut mekânlarının biçimlenmesini doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu bağlamda; cinsiyet ve toplumsal cinsiyet, konut mekân organizasyonu ve alan çalışması olmak üzere üç ayrı bölümden oluşan bu çalışma ile konutun, cinsiyetle olan ilişkisini ortaya koymak ve 1980'den bugüne toplumsal cinsiyet algısının konut mekân biçimlenmesi üzerine etkisini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır.

An individual has the feature of being either a male or a female from the birth to the end of his/her life. This biological identification is pointed out as“sex”and it describes certain biological and physical features that cannot be altered. However, as soon as an individual begins to exist within the society, some tasks and roles are attributed to the individual by the society. There are a number of rules on how and where individuals can exist in social life, and the milieu in which they can be active. Stereotypes are directly influential in determining these attributed roles and tasks. All these stereotypes describe the concept of“gender”. The changing lifestyles also alter and transform the roles that the society ascribes to the individual. The change of the social roles and the domain of the female and the male has affected the decision areas of the space and at the same time the organization of the space has to be rethought. While these changes are reflected as the difference between private and public spaces in cities, the representation of this reflection on the smallest scale is houses. Moreover, the concept of gender and private-public distinction directly affect the shaping of housing spaces. In this context; it is aimed to reveal the relationship between housing and sex and to determine the effect of gender perception on residential space organization since 1980 with this study consisting of three section, sex and gender, housing space organization and field work.
