Özet
XIX. yüzyıl sosyal, siyasal ve bilimsel açıdan bir dönüşümün çağıdır. Tarih de bu dönüşümün dışında değildir. XIX. yüzyılda tarih, bilimsel metotlar ile hakikate ulaşmanın yanında ideolojik ya da romantik anlayış ile yeni bir dünya yaratmak için bir araç olarak da kullanılmıştır. Yeni dünya yaratımında belli ideolojilerin hakimiyeti için ideolojilerin meşruiyetinin sağlanması gerekmektedir. İdeolojileri toplumsal zemine sağlam bir şekilde yerleştirebilmek amacıyla tarihin meşrulaştırıcı gücüne ihtiyaç duyulur. Tarihsel meşru zemini de tarihçiler oluşturur. Bu yüzden tarih metinleri incelenirken onu kaleme alan tarihçiyi de incelemek gerekir. Tarih ve ideoloji arasındaki bağın anlaşılabilmesi için tarihçinin hayatının kırılma noktalarını bilme lüzumu vardır. Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı son dönem aydınlarından olan Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin hayatı ve hayatının kırılma noktalarından hareketle tarih eseri yazmasının ve bazı kurgu eserlerini tarihten beslemesinin sebepleri irdelenmiştir. Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin tarihe yüklediği anlam hem kendi ifadesinden hem eserlerindeki örtük mesajlardan tespit edilmiştir. Ahmet Mithat'ın tarih ve tarihçi anlayışı modern tarih yazımı ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Örneklem olarak seçilen eserlerindeki ideolojik unsurlar takip edilmiştir. İdeolojik unsurların tahlili neticesinde“aydın ve tarih”,“tarihçi ve iktidar”,“tarih ve ideoloji”gibi kavramların birbiri ile ilişkisi Ahmet Mithat Efendi örneğinden hareketle değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca dönemin önemli tarihçisi Ahmet Cevdet Paşa'nın, Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin eserlerine yaptığı şerh ve eleştiriler üzerinden yola çıkarak son dönem Osmanlı'sının bir aydından ve bir tarihçiden beklentileri irdelenmiştir. Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin tarihe bakışının ele alındığı bu tezde, tarihi malzeme edinirken, etkisi altında kaldığı sosyal ve siyasi olgular üzerinden tarihçiliği incelenmiştir. Ahmet Mithat'ın tarihi ele alışı, hayatında yaşadığı kırılma noktaları ile eşleştirilmiş, XIX. yüzyılın sosyal, siyasi ve kültürel koşulları ile kendi politik konumu ve milliyetçilik kuramları arasında bağ kurulmuştur.

XIX. century is an era of social, political and scientific transformation. History does not lie outside the scope of this transformation as well. XIX. In the 19th century, history was used as a tool to create a new world with ideological or romantic understanding as well as to reach the truth through scientific methods. In the formation of the new world, the legitimacy of ideologies must be ensured for the dominance of certain ideologies. The legitimate power of history is needed in order to place ideologies firmly on the social ground. Historians form the historical legitimate ground as well. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the historian who wrote the historical works in analyzing historical artifacts. To comprehend the link between history and ideology, it is necessary to know the breaking points of the historian's life. In this study, the reasons of the late Ottoman intellectual Ahmet Mithat Efendi's life and his life writing from the breaking points and the causes for feeding some of the fiction works from the history were examined. The meaning that Ahmet Mithat Efendi put into history has been determined both from his own expression and from implicit messages in his works. The notion of history and historiography of Ahmet Mithat have been compared with modern historiography. As a sample, the ideological elements in the selected works were followed. As a result of the analysis of ideological elements, the relation between the concepts such as“intellectual and history”,“historian and power”,“history and ideology”was evaluated with reference to Ahmet Mithat Efendi. Furthermore, the expectations of a late Ottoman and a historian were examined in the light of his commentary and criticism on the works of Ahmet Mithat Efendi by Ahmet Cevdet Pasha, who was an important historian of the time. Ahmet Mithat Efendi's view of history is handled in this thesis, his historiography were examined under the influence of social and political phenomenon which impress Ahmet Mithat Efendi. The conception of history of Ahmet Mithat is matched with the breaking points in his life. The relationship between the social, political and cultural conditions of the 19th century and its political position and theories of nationalism was established.
