Özet
İkinci dil öğrenen öğrencilerin tutum ve motivasyonları uzun zamandır araştırmacıların gündemine gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada Ardahan Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin zorunlu İngilizce derslerine karşı tutumları sevgi, ilgi, istek, beklenti ve kaygı alt boyutları göz önünde bulundurularak incelenmiştir. Çalışma planlanırken araştırmanın sadece Ardahan Üniversitesi'nde öğrenim gören öğrencilere yönelik olduğu ve genelleme yapılamayacağı belirtilmiş ve göz önünde bulundurulmuştur. Çalışmadaki veriler, Tutum Ölçeği ve Nitel sorular olmak üzere iki çeşit araç kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Anketler toplam 573 öğrenciye (301 kız ve 272 erkek öğrenci) uygulanmıştır. Bu öğrencilerin 173'ü önlisans, 400'ü lisans öğrencisidir. Anketler SPSS 20.0 programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiş ve betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılarak frekans ve yüzde değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre; Ardahan Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin tutumları ile cinsiyet ve eğitim durumları arasında önemli bir fark bulunmamıştır. Öğrencilerin yaşları ve İngilizce dersinden aldıkları notlar arasında ise önemli bir fark tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda öğrencilerin olumsuz tutumları değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar ise öğrencilerin olumsuz tutumlarının giderilmesi ve olumlu tutumlara dönüştürülmesi için üniversiteye ve öğretim görevlilerine bir gösterge oluşturmuştur.

Attitudes and motivations of students who have learned a second language have been on the agenda of researchers for a long time. In this study, the attitudes of Ardahan university students towards compulsory English language courses were examined by considering the sub-dimensions of love, interest, desire and expectations, and concern. When planning the study, it was stated that the research is only for Ardahan University students and cannot be generalized. The data in the study were obtained by using two types of tools: Attitude Scale and Qualitative Questions. The questionnaires were applied to a total of 573 students (301 female and 272 male students). 173 of the students have Associate's degree and 400 of the students have undergraduate degree. The questionnaires were analysed using SPSS 20.0 program and frequency and percentage values were calculated by using the descriptive analysis technique. According to the results of the study, there is not any significant difference between the attitudes of Ardahan University students and their gender and educational background. There is a significant difference between the attitudes of students and their ages and course mark which are gotten from the English course. As a result of the study, the negative attitudes of students were evaluated. The results provided an indication to the university and the instructors in order to eliminate the negative attitudes of the students and turn them into positive attitudes.
