Özet

80 SUMMARY This research is experimentally designed to determine the effect of nurse care education on theoretical knowledge and practical skills of nurses in burned pediatric patient population. This data is optained from inquiry forms prepared by researcher depending on literature background and filled before and after education by 46 nurses who gives burned patient care in Emergency Surgery and Plastic Surgery departments of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty and Istanbul Medical Faculty. Data is statistically evaluated by SPSS package programme, percentage, student's t testi, Wilcoxon, chi-square and one way analysis of variance (Anova). The majority oüf nurses participating to study were over 34 years of age and had at least one year experience in burned patient care. It is observed that the majority of nurses had license and pre-license education. Also great majority mentioned that they had burned patient care education for adults but not for the pediatric population. Upon evaluation of theoretical and practical background of81 nurses, it was seen that 23,9% of nurses had insufficient knowledge, while 4,3% of them had excellent knowledge of burned patient care before education. It was demonstrated that the ratio of nurses with excellent knowledge increased to 70% and no nurse with insufficient information were present after the education. Upon evaluation of relation between knowledge level and the education given, a statistically significient increase in knowledge levels after the education was found. Before the education, it was seen that the theoretical knowledge levels were lower than practical knowledge levels and also after the education it was observed that the most increase was seen in theoretical knowledge and the difference between theoretical and practical knowledge levels was abolished. Upon consideration of relation between knowledge levels about burned pediatric patient population nurse care with educational status, the result was found to be statistically significant. Before the education it was seen that the lowest knowledge was observed in health college graduates and highest knowledge was observed in nurse high school graduates. The difference between knowledge levels after the education was not statistically significant. The relation between the knowledge levels about burned pediatric population nurse care and the age, experience and the status of satisfaction in the department they worked, didn't show statistically significant results.
