Introduction-Aim: Type 2 diabetes is a disease that can adversely affect the physical condition and quality of life. The purpose of our study was to compare of sensory, muscle strength, balance, mobility and quality of life in individuals with type 2 diabetes with and without peripheral neuropathy and without type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods: A total of 54 individuals were included in the study; 17 with type 2 diabetes with peripheral neuropathy (age=56,11±4,22 years), 17 with type 2 diabetes without peripheral neuropathy (age=55,58±7,60 years) and 20 without diabetes (age=51,55±6,05 years). Senses of light touch of individuals with the Semmes-Weinstein Monofilament, vibration senses with a tuning fork, knee proprioceptions with a universal goniometer, muscle forces with a dynamometer, ankle plantar flexor muscle forces with manual muscle test, balances with a computerized balance device, functional motilities with the timed up and go test, balance confidence intervals with the Activity Specific Balance Confidence Scale, qualities of life with the Short Form 36 Survey were evaluated. Results: Light touch and vibration senses were significantly affected compared with control group in groups with and without peripheral neuropathy, and impact was found to be more in the group with peripheral neuropathy (p<0,001). Proprioception was significantly affected in group without peripheral neuropathy compared with control group (p=0,013; p=0,003). Left knee extensor muscle strength were found to be significantly lower in group with peripheral neuropathy compared with control group, left-right knee flexor and left-right ankle dorsi flexor muscle strength were found to be significantly lower in groups with and without peripheral neuropathy compared with control group, left-right ankle plantar flexor muscle strength was found to be significantly lower in group with peripheral neuropathy compared with group without peripheral neuropathy and control group (p<0,05). Eyes open balance was found to be significantly worse in group with peripheral neuropathy compared with control group (p=0,002), eyes closed balance was found to be significantly worse in group with peripheral neuropathy compared with group without peripheral neuropathy and control group (p=0,001), limits of stability was found to be significantly worse in groups with and without peripheral neuropathy compared with control group (p=0,002). Functional mobility, balance confidence interval and quality of life values were found to be significantly worse in groups with and without peripheral neuropathy compared with control group (p<0,001; p=0,002). Conclusion: In addition to the negative impact on the physical condition of individuals with type 2 diabetes, peripheral neuropathy further increases this effect. Early detection of the effects of type 2 diabetes is important for the preventive approach and prevention of advanced effects that may occur.
