Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı Geç Antik Çağ'dan Erken Bizans'a heykel sanatının üslupsal gelişimi incelemektedir. Bu kapsamda Geç Antik ve Erken Bizans dönemi heykel sanatının kaynağını anlamak açısından ilk bölümde Roma İmparatorluk dönemi heykel sanatı ile ilgili genel bir bilgi verilmiştir. Tezin ikinci bölümünde Constantinus Hanedanlığı döneminden Iustinianus Hanedanlığı dönemine kadar heykel sanatı örneklerinin üslupsal gelişimi dönemsel olarak anlatılmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde, Roma İmparatorluk döneminden Erken Bizans dönemine heykel örneklerinin genel üslupsal değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır ve bazı anıtsal kabartma örnekleri ile bu gelişim desteklenmiştir. Ayrıca iki önemli ekol olan Aphrodisias ve Efes heykel atölyelerinin üslupları anlatılmış ve karşılaştırılmıştır. Bölüm içerisinde Geç Antik ve Erken Bizans döneminde antik tema ve figürlerin etkisiyle üretilen dini konulu heykel örnekleri de anlatılmıştır.“Hıristiyanlıkla birlikte heykele karşı tutum ve yaklaşımlar”başlığı altında Erken Bizans döneminde Konstantinopolis'te koleksiyonu yapılan ve sergilenen antik dönem heykellerine yer verilmiştir. Ardından heykel üretiminin neden zaman içerisinde azaldığını anlamak amacıyla heykellere yapılan müdahaleler, Hıristiyan din adamlarının heykel karşıtı tutumları, heykellerle ilgili batıl inançlar ve çeşitli tutumlar ele alınmıştır. Bölüm içerisinde antik kentlerin yapısındaki değişimlerin de heykelin azalmasında etken unsurlardan biri olduğuna değinilmiştir. Bölüm içerisinde son olarak Orta Bizans döneminden günümüze gelebilen az sayıdaki heykel örnekleri anlatılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to examine the stylistic development of the statues from Late Antiquity to the Early Byzantine Period. The thesis is grouped under three titles: Firstly, in order to understand the source of Late Antiquity and Early Byzantine Period statue, general information about the sculpture art of the Roman Empire is given. In the second part, the stylistic development of statue samples from the Constantinian Dynasty to the Justinian Dynasty is explained periodically. In the third chapter, a general stylistic evaluation of the sculpture samples from the Roman Imperial period to the Early Byzantine period was made and this development was supported by some monumental relief samples. In addition, the styles of the sculpture workshops of Aphrodisias and Ephesus, which are two important schools, are explained and compared. In the section, examples of religious sculptures that were produced under the influence of ancient themes and figures in the Late Antique and Early Byzantine periods were also explained. Under the title of“Christian attitudes and approaches towards statues”, antique sculptures collected and exhibited in Constantinople during the Early Byzantine period are explained. Also, in order to understand why the production of statues decreased over time, the interventions made to the sculptures, the anti-sculpture attitudes of the Christian clergy, the superstitions about the sculptures and various attitudes were discussed. In this section, it has been mentioned that the changes in the structure of the ancient cities, which are the areas where the sculptures are exhibited, are one of the factors that reduce the sculpture. Finally, in this section, the several examples of statues dating from the Middle Byzantine period are explained.
