Özet (Çeviri)
In this thesis, an analysis of the factors that affect voluntary feed intake in sheep intake was carried out and the outcome of changes in intake on digestion and methane production in sheep assessed. The study was based on an extensive review of literature combined with an experiment carried out when ewes were observed and assessed on their voluntary intake and the impact on their growth as well as in release of volatile fatty acids. The results of an experiment done to measure voluntary feed intake using 6 ewes are provided and discussed. These also include the effects on digestibility Factors considered included: including intake of Dry Matter Intake, Organic Matter, Neutral Detergent Fiber and Acid Detergent Fiber among others. Effects of intake on rumen pH, volatile fatty acids, methane emissions, and production of ammonia were also determined. The study indicates the level of ammonia released by ruminants after ingestion of food peaks after two hours. It also indicated fast growth of animals with access to food especially before maturity. Propionic acid as well as acetic acids increased with the level of consumption until the animal reached peak in its consumption when these elements started declining. From the study, it is also clear that digestibility of organic matter is higher than dry matter and also, the level of methane production as well as production of fatty acids increase with the increase in the amount of food ingested at the same time, it is clear that increased voluntary growth increases the rate of growth among sheep. Those rearing sheep thus needs to ensure that.
