The primary purpose of this study is to investigate censored thoughts and images in the field of cinema in Turkey. While identifying and categorizing the characteristics of these obstructions, the concept of censorship and self censor are mentioned from a broader viewpoint including all reasons and consequences of the problems which is related to Turkish Cinema. This thesis also aims to give an explanatory qualitative inquiry about the alteration of the ways of censorship and freedom of expression in Turkish Cinema through the political history of Turkey. Apart from the analysis of the historical cases from Turkish films and film festivals, one of major objective of this study is to prioritize the five selected narrative interviewee's ideas and experiences in order to provide an angle not only from the outside but also from the inside to the obstacles. The main goal is trying to understand the structure and the change within the process of the censor mechanism and to draw attention to the importance of freedom of expression in production with the help of the experiences and thoughts of these participants. This research seeks to show the problematic relationship between censorship and democracy using Turkish Cinema.
