Özet (Çeviri)
English is a must-learn language of the era as it is being used across many disciplines such as business and academic. As a demand to meet the need to teach English, non-native English teachers (NNESTs) outnumbered native English teachers (NESTs) which consequently led to a constant debate of 'who makes a better teacher'. As a result, NNESTs are left to face unjustifiable misjudgements and inequalities causing them to feel inadequate at their profession. The purpose of this study was to analyse discriminations NNESTs face in Turkey, how they affect their self-confidence, emotional-stability and productivity, and suggest possible ways to reduce misjudgements and inequalities they face. By integrating mixed method research (MMR), both qualitative (interviews) and quantitative (questionnaire) data were gathered from NNESTs working in Turkey. In total, 13 interviews and 36 questionnaires were collected. The findings showed that NNESTs were exposed to a variety of misjudgements or inequalities from parents and recruitment boards and that discriminations were not limited to face-to-face interactions but were observable in online job advertisements. As a result of discriminative attitudes, NNESTs' emotional-stability was affected whilst their self-confidence or productivity was not affected as they trusted in their educational background and acknowledged the importance of their job. In the light of the findings, the study presented a number of recommendations for improvements in three subjects: the education system, governmental regulations and social awareness.
