Özet (Çeviri)

In this study, we investigated whether the closeness of the relationship moderates the process, in which the decision partners' influence in a joint decision situation is determined by their ability to regulate their responses (self-control). A total of 201 people participated in an online between-subjects experiment that they had to read two different scenarios. The decision partner in both of the scenarios was either the romantic partner or a stranger. After each scenario, participants answered a question to measure the degree to which they would let the decision partner have his/her way or get their way. Later, participants filled out two questionnaires about their self-control, and commitment to their romantic partner if they had a romantic relationship. Specifically, we suggested that in a joint decision-making situation with a romantic partner, people high in self-control would tend to let their partner have their way. Contrariwise, in a joint decision-making situation with a stranger, people high in selfcontrol tend to get their way. Contrary to our expectations, results showed no effect of relationship type. Additionally, we proposed that in the romantic relationships with more commitment, individuals higher in self-control would be more likely to let their partner have their way. In romantic relationships with less commitment, individuals higher in self-control would be more likely to get their way. The results proved no effect of commitment. However, we found that higher scores on self-control predict high commitment, and individuals who have high commitment towards their romantic partners are more likely to insist on their preferences.
