158 SUMMARY Agricultural sector, due to its special characteristics, has to be protected by using different protection measures in varioxis coun tries. Agriculture could be supported by using measures related v/ith agricultural prices and price policy and it can also be supported by using structural measures through the structural policy. The research aims at studying the protection of agricul tural sector by different means of agricultural policy in developed countries and more particularly in the EEC, with special reference to the Turkish agriculture. In the first part, a brief description of agricultural protection and pro tection methods used in the U.S. A and Canada, is given. The second part of the study is on the protective measures in the EEC and in Turkey. Turkey, as an associated member of the EEC, has to go under a period of preparation to adapt its economy towards integration with the EEC. The significance of agriculture during the preparation period cannot be neglected because of the importance of agricultural sector of the Turkish economy» The protection methods used in the EEC agriculture and in the Turkish agriculture is studied both for the measures related with prices and structural measures. It can be stated that the protection measures of the EEC agriculture and the Turkish agriculture is generally alike. But there is a difference in the importance and in the comprehension given to the agricultural support and intervention measures. The last part of the study puts forward the problems and some related measures concerning the adaptation of the159 protection measures of the EEC, to the Turkish agriculture. Measures like intervention prices, thresUaoid prices, refer ence prices and variable levies are some of the methods which could "be used in the Turkish agriculture, where the measures related with agricultural prices is extensively used. But the adjustments of the measures to the Turkish agriculture has to be made in such a way that the results would not cause any problem to the Turkish agricultural sector. On the other hand, special attention has to be given to the structural adjustment of the Turkish agriculture to the EEC.
