Memory failures can play an important role in addressing the test anxiety. Data from several studies suggest that test anxiety results in impairments in memory, by impeding the information processing system and working memory. To the best of authors knowledge, no study has been published to investigate cognitive test anxiety, retrospective and prospective memory performance among university students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between cognitive test anxiety, retrospective memory and prospective memory performance among university students. The sample of the study consisted of 645 university students. Sociodemographic Information Form, The Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire, Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale-Revised were administered. Based on the socio-demographic variables and scales, appropriate normality tests were applied to test the normality assumptions. Descriptive statistics method was conducted to examine the socio-demographic variables, and Pearson's correlation analysis and simple linear regression analyses were utilized the investigate the associations between cognitive aspect of test anxiety and prospective and retrospective memory failures. Results revealed a gender difference between total scores of prospective and retrospective memory questionnaire and cognitive test anxiety scale. Cognitive anxiety predicted both prospective memory failures and retrospective memory failures. The findings of the study are discussed according to the literature. Implications for research, clinical practice, and recommendations for future research were described.
