This dissertation explores the venture of Lāmiī Çelebi's Fütūhu'l-Mücāhidīn li-Tervīhi Kulūbü'l-Müşāhidīn in the reading public of early modern Ottoman Rūm (ca. between 1500 and 1800) by examining the existing manuscripts (seventy-seven in total) of this Sufi biographical dictionary and some other contemporary sources (e.g., biographical dictionaries). This dissertation argues that the manuscripts of Lāmiī Çelebi's Fütūhu'l-Mücāhidīn li-Tervīhi Kulūbü'l-Müşāhidīn were dominantly used or owned by the Ottoman literati in the reading public and the usage of these manuscripts by the Ottoman literati was quite compatible with the genre of the book. It is maintained that this book had a certain success among its own audience, namely the Ottoman literati, when we evaluate the book in its own context. This study consists of five chapters that examine the venture of Lāmiī Çelebi's Fütūhu'lMücāhidīn li-Tervīhi Kulūbü'l-Müşāhidīn in the reading public of early modern Ottoman Rūm step by step. The first chapter examines the context in which the translation was made by Lāmiī Çelebi from Persian into Ottoman Turkish. This chapter argues that since Lāmiī was an AhrārīNakşī Sufi, just like Cāmī, and since Lāmiī was planning to fashion a form of Sunni-minded tasavvuf for the reading public interested in tasavvuf, he translated Cāmī's Nefehātü'l-Üns as the most up-to-date and comprehensive Sufi biographical dictionary in Persian in his time. The second chapter focuses on how Lāmiī Çelebi prepared Cāmī's Nefehātü'l-Üns for the reading public of early modern Ottoman Rūm. This chapter proposes that Lāmiī made Cāmī's Nefehātü'l-Üns Ottoman-adjusted with several additions such as minhīyāts (footnotes), with more details about the Sufis and Sufi orders popular in early modern Rūm. The main concentration of the following chapters (Chapter 3, Chapter 4, and Chapter 5) is the manuscripts of Lāmiī Çelebi's Fütūhu'l-Mücāhidīn li-Tervīhi Kulūbü'l-Müşāhidīn. In this regard, the third chapter discovers the actual audience of the manuscripts of Lāmiī Çelebi's translation, the fourth chapter investigates actual usage of the manuscripts, and, finally, the fifth chapter investigates the demand for the manuscripts among the reading public. In the end, these chapters claim that Lāmiī Çelebi's translation was dominantly used by the Ottoman literati, who utilized it as a kind of reference book or Sufi guidebook, and that the demand for the manuscripts was quite high compared to other books in the same or similar genres
