One of the main advantages of smart building systems is energy management. Low power wireless sensors can be used in many critical applications in these systems including energy management; however, popular smart home protocols are conditioning a battery in the wireless sensors, which is not environmentally friendly and sustainable. ISO/IEC 14543-3-10 based EnOcean protocol resolved this battery issue and led up for batteryless wireless sensors. In this thesis, a PLC backboned module (eSMART Plug) has been studied for communication with EnOcean batteryless sensors with the collaboration of eSMART Technologies SA. Heating management of a building is selected as an application field, hence sensors related to heating were studied. Following the design of a firmware related to this application, a PCB prototype was realized for the eSMART module. This PCB prototype and firmware have been tested and validated with EnOcean wireless sensors, making them suitable for eSMART's PLC backboned plug module.
