Özet
Bu tezin amacı Türkiye'de öğrenci başarısını etkileyen faktörleri belirlemektir. Bu kapsamda çalışmada 15 yaş grubu öğrencilerin kazanmış oldukları bilgi ve becerileri değerlendiren, PISA (Uluslararası Öğrenci Başarılarını Değerlendirme Programı) 2018 Türkiye verileri kullanılmıştır. PISA 2018 anketine Türkiye'den 6890 öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışmada faktör analizi için öğrenci başarısını etkileyeceği düşünülen 52 değişken ve için 4473 öğrencinin verileri değerlendirilmiştir. Öğrenci başarısını etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek için temel bileşenler analizi yönteminden yararlanarak faktör analizi uygulanmıştır ve başarıyı etkileyen 14 temel faktör olduğu bulunmuştur. Çalışmanın devamında bu 14 faktörün yanı sıra anne ve babanın eğitim durumu ile öğrencinin cinsiyetinin; öğrencinin matematik, fen ve okuma alanlarındaki başarısını ne derecede etkilediğini ölçmek amacıyla çoklu regresyon modeli kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucuna göre Ailenin Refahı, Okul Dışında BİT Kullanımı, Matematik ve Fen Dersi Öğrenme Süresi, Okuduğunu Anlama Algısı, Okulda BİT Kullanımı, Ayrımcılık ve Zorbalık, Okulda İş Birliği Algısı, Öğrencinin Cinsiyeti ve Babanın Eğitim Durumunun öğrenci akademik başarısını açıklamada önemli değişkenler olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Matematik ve fen alanında erkek öğrenciler daha başarılıyken, okuma becerileri alanında kız öğrencilerin daha başarılı olduğu sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ailenin sosyo-ekonomik durumunun öğrenci başarısındaki önemi tespit edilmiştir. Bilgi iletişim teknolojilerinin öğrenci başarısını belirlemede en önemli etkenlerden biri olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Bu anlamda dezavantajlı öğrenciler için fırsat eşitliğini sağlayacak desteklere önem verilmesi gerekmektedir.

The aim of this thesis is to determine the factors affecting students' success in Turkey. PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2018 Turkey data is used in the study, which evaluates the knowledge and skills gained by 15-year-old students. 6890 students from Turkey participated in the PISA 2018 survey. In the study, the 4473 students of 6890 are evaluated for 52 variables that are thought to affect student achievement for factor analysis. In order to determine the factors affecting student success, factor analysis is applied using the principal component analysis method and it is found that there are 14 basic factors affecting success. In the continuation of the study, in addition to these 14 factors, the educational status of the parents and the gender of the student; A multiple regression model is used to measure the extent to which the student's success in mathematics, science and reading was affected. According to the results of the analysis, it has been revealed that the“Welfare of the Family”,“Use of ICT Outside the School”,“Time to Learn Mathematics and Science”,“Perception of Reading Comprehension”,“Use of ICT at School”,“Discrimination and Bullying”,“Perception of Cooperation at School”,“Gender of the Student and Educational Status of the Father”are important variables in explaining the academic success of the student. According to the results obtained, it was emphasized that while male students were more successful in mathematics and science, female students were more successful in reading skills. It has been determined that the socio-economic status of the family is an important variable affecting the success of the student. It is understood that variables including information and communication technologies are important variables in determining student success. As a result, it is important that the support that will provide equal opportunity for disadvantaged students should be given attention.
