The insufficiencies in the theories of International Relations are seemingly obvious. Main issues of shortcomings with them include their Western-centric orientation, their lack of depth, irrelevancies with political realities and their unresponsiveness towards the changes in the field of International Relations. In this sense, contemporary Turkish foreign policy seems to be an interesting and valid field of study to point out such issues with widespread theories, considering the unique location of Turkey and its political background, combined with diverse elements which affect Turkish foreign policy making. Contemporary Turkish foreign policy is in a shift in priorities and areas of interest. AKP leadership pursues an agenda different with what came before. Four applied theories, neorealism, neoliberalism, the Copenhagen school and neo-Gramscianism result either lacking or shortcoming in different perspectives. The point is to show the surfacing need of widening or development of new and local theories, which would in turn help scholars of the discipline reach a better understanding and clearer analytical results in these local regions.
