Since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, Ankara's foreign policy has witnessed several pivoting moments that hugely impacted the Republic's regional and international posture creating allies and many adversaries. But there has been always a combination of factors that influenced the way that Turkish foreign policy had been conducted, pivoted, or completely moved to another direction. In 2002, with the rise of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) into power, the transformation of the foreign policy has seen some radical shifts. Turkey has begun to abandon its traditional foreign policy of status quo and, later, its Pro-Western foreign policy trajectory by adopting a more proactive and Eastward foreign policy at regional and international level. Fifteen years after AKP's rise to the power, yet there is an ongoing debate about the AKP's priorities, trajectories, and preferences in Turkish foreign policy. Things are especially alarming after AKP's consecutive attempts for amending the constitution and making President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a more powerful president. This research is intended to demonstrate AKP administration's foreign policy and analyze the shifts from West to the Middle East. While analyzing the above-mentioned shifts, the study finds out that there had been a gradual shift influenced by a set of domestic policy, changes, and political contestation, as well as, regional and international events that impacted the AKP's leaders decision-making processes and motivation.
