Özet

Hz. Peygamber'in hayatı, hakkında en çok eser yazılan konulardan birisi olmuştur. Oryantalizm çalışmaları adı altında pek çok müsteşrik de siyere dair eserler kaleme almıştır. Bazı müsteşrikler Hz. Peygamber için ''savaş peygamberi'', ''saralı'', ''sahte din olan İslâm'ın kurucusu'', ''Kur'ân'ın yazarı'', ''çocuk istismarcısı'', ''şehvetperest'' gibi hakaret boyutuna ulaşan ifadeler kullanmış ve ilmî tarafsızlıktan uzak bir tutum sergilemişlerdir. Asılsız yahut zayıf rivayetleri baz alarak Hz. Peygamber'e iftira etmekten geri durmamışlardır. Vahyin mahiyeti ve gerçekliği, Hz. Peygamber'in evlilikleri, Hz. Peygamber'in gazve ve seriyyeleri, Yahudi ve Hıristiyanlarla ilişkiler müsteşriklerin üzerinde en çok durdukları ve eleştiride bulundukları konular olmuştur. Hz. Peygamber'in her durum ve koşulu kendi lehine çeviren zeki bir siyasetçi olduğunu ve bu hususta vahyi kullandığını, Hz. Peygamber'in gazve ve seriyyelerinin ganimet elde etme maksadıyla gerçekleştirilğini, Bedir ve Uhud gazvelerinin sorumlusunun Müslümanlar olduğunu ve Mekke müşriklerinin yalnızca kervanlarını korumak maksadıyla Müslümanlarla mücadeleye giriştiklerini, Müslümanlar tarafından ganimet elde edilemeyen seferlerin ardından Hz. Peygamber'in telafi için Yahudilere saldırdığını ve Yahudileri sindirmeye çalıştığını, Benî Kurayzâ Gazvesi'nde Yahudilerin katledildiğini, hac ile ilgili ibadetlerin putperestliğin devamı niteliğinde olduğunu iddia eden İngiliz müsteşrik Edward Sell, İslâm dini ve doğu coğrafyası üzerine eserler kaleme almıştır. Siyer alanına dair yazmış olduğu ''The Life of Muhammad'' adlı eserinde Sell, Hz. Peygamber'in biyografisini kronolojik ve yüzeysel bir şekilde ele almış, oryantalist çerçevede hadiseleri değerlendirmeye çalışmıştır. Tez çalışmamızda Sell'in bahsi geçen eseri, siyer ve İslâm tarihi kaynaklarına göre değerlendirilmiş; Edward Sell'in siyer kaynaklarına yaklaşımı, Hz. Peygamber'in hayatındaki gelişmelere yönelik ortaya attığı asılsız iddiaları ve bu hususta ne derece tarafsız olduğu tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.

The life of the Prophet has been one of the subjects on which the most works have been written. Many orientalists wrote works on sirah under the name of orientalism studies. Some orientalists for the Prophet,“the prophet of war”,“the epileptic”,“the founder of the false religion Islam”,“the author of the Qur'an”,“the child abuser”,“the lascivious person”used expressions that reached the level of insult and displayed and attitude far from scientific impartiality. Based on unfounded or weak narrations, they did not refrain from slandering the Prophet. The nature and reality of the revelation, The marriages of the Prophet, Hz. The Prophet's wars and wars, relations with Jews and Christians were the subjects that the orientalists focused on and criticized the most. English orientalist Edward Sell, who claimed that The Prophet was an intelligent politician who turned every situation and condition in his favor and he used revelation in this regard, the Prophet's wars and expeditions were carried out with the aim of gaining booty, that Muslims were responsible for the Battles of Badr and Uhud, and that the Meccan polytheists engaged in a struggle against Muslims only to protect their caravans, the Prophet attacked the Jews for compensation and tried to intimidate the Jews, that the Jews were killed in the Bani Qurayza Campaign, and that the worship related to the pilgrimage was a continuation of paganism, wrote about the religion of Islam and the eastern geography. In his work“The Life of Muhammad”, which he wrote on the field of Sirah, dealt with the biography of the Prophet chronologically and superficially, and tried to evaluate the events that he considered important. In our thesis study, the mentioned work of Sell was evaluated according to the sources of siyer and Islamic history; it has been tried to determine Edward Sell's approach to the sources of sirah, his baseless claims about the developments in the life of the Prophet and how impartial he was in this regard.
