Özet
Bu tezin birincil hedefi, 19. yüzyıl düşünürlerinden Arthur Schopenhauer ve Sören Kierkegaard'ın evlilik anlayışlarını incelemek ve karşılaştırmaktır. Bu hedef doğrultusunda tez, önce birinci bölümde bu iki çağdaş filozofun yaşam öykülerini ana hatlarıyla ele almaktadır. Nitekim bu iki düşünürün hem genel felsefelerinde hem de evlilik anlayışlarında yaşam öykülerinin belirgin ve derin izleri bulunmaktadır. Bir düşünürün evliliğe bakış açısını tam olarak anlayabilmek için o düşünürün genel olarak insanı nasıl kavradığı, kadın ve erkek cinslerine ne türden bir ontolojik anlam yüklediğini de incelemek gerekmektedir. Bu nedenle tez, ikinci bölümde Schopenhauer ve Kierkegaard'ın yaşam öykülerinden hareketle bu iki filozofun Tanrı ve tabiat önünde insanı ne şekilde yorumladıklarını, kadın ve erkeğe ne türden bir ontolojik rol biçtiklerini ortaya çıkarma teşebbüsünde bulunmaktadır. Öte yandan tezin birincil hedefinin gerçekleşmesi için bu iki çağdaş düşünürün kadın-erkek etkileşimine yönelik görüşlerinin de analiz edilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu doğrultuda tez, üçüncü bölümde söz konusu etkileşimin doğasının bu iki düşünür tarafından nasıl anlaşıldığını analiz etmektedir. Tüm bu inceleme ve analizlere dayanarak tez, dördüncü bölümde Schopenhauer ve Kierkegaard'ın evlilik anlayışlarını ayrı ayrı ele almakta; yaşam öykülerinin, insan kavrayışlarının, kadın ve erkeği ontolojik konumlandırma biçimlerinin evlilik anlayışlarını nasıl şekillendirdiğini ortaya koyma teşebbüsünde bulunmaktadır. Son aşamada bu tez, neredeyse birbirine tümüyle zıt iki evlilik anlayışının kökeninde; aynı dönemde yaşamış olan bu iki düşünürün oldukça farklı çocukluk deneyimlerinin, ebeveynleri ile kurdukları sorunlu ilişkilerin yattığı tespitini yapmakta; evrensel bir evlilik anlayışının imkânsız olduğu ve evlilikte esas ilkenin temel hak ve özgürlüklerin çiğnenmemesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşmaktadır.

The essential aim of this thesis is to examine and compare the understanding of marriage of 19th-century thinkers Arthur Schopenhauer and Sören Kierkegaard. In line with this goal, the thesis first deals with the lives of these two contemporary philosophers in the first chapter. There are clear and deep traces of the lives of these two thinkers both in their general philosophies and in their understandings of marriage. To fully understand a thinker's point of view on marriage, it is also necessary to examine how that thinker comprehends human beings in general and what kind of ontological meaning he attributes to the genders of men and women. Therefore, the second chapter of the thesis, based on the life stories of Schopenhauer and Kierkegaard, attempts to reveal how these two philosophers interpreted the nature of human being before God and nature and what kind of ontological role they assigned to men and women. In order to realize the primary objective of the thesis, the views of these two contemporary thinkers on male-female interaction should also be analyzed. To fulfill this purpose, the thesis analyzes how the nature of the interaction in question was understood by these two thinkers in the third chapter. Based on all these examinations and analyses, the thesis deals with Schopenhauer and Kierkegaard's understanding of marriage separately in the fourth chapter; it attempts to reveal how the stories of their lives, their conceptions of human being, and the ontological statuses they ascribe to men and women shape their understandings of marriage. At a final stage, this thesis diagnosis that at the origin of these two almost completely opposite understandings of marriage lie quite different childhood experiences of these two philosophers and troubled relationships with their parents; and concludes that while a universal conception of marriage is impossible, perhaps the core principle of marriage should only be not to violate the fundamental rights and freedoms of couples.
