Although there are numerous studies on the performance of different types of funds, the research relating to the performance of nuclear waste and decommissioning funds has not been studied yet. I, specifically, investigate these funds' performance under such negative financial states as the 2008 global economic crisis, Covid-19 crisis, and the like. By using the annual reports of the fund management, I examine the performance of OPG, EDF, Kärnavfallsfonden, and NLF funds for the 2007-2020 period. I find that recession and crisis have a certain negative effect on the rate of return of the funds. Furthermore, the funds involved in riskless investment are affected more than the funds using risky assets in their portfolio. These findings match with my assumption that the funds are very likely to realize a negative return in crisis and recession times, and the earlier research that the type of assets in a portfolio is the key factor for the performance of the fund when an unfavourable financial environment appears in a country.
