Entrainment is an event-related process that facilities people to easily perceive external stimuli by predicting upcoming events. Previous studies demonstrated entrainment deficits in people with pathological disorders. The present research mainly focused on the comparison between depressed and non-depressed people in the scores of accuracy and reaction time to identify target stimuli by using entrainment paradigm, which is a new paradigm in attentional research. One experiment was conducted with a total of 44 participants including both people with depression disorders and people without such disorders. The behavioral results indicated that the more entrainers are presented, the better performance were obtained in visual perception in both healthy and depressed people. We also found that when more entrainers were presented, increasing inter-stimulus interval results in people to hardly perceive target stimuli, and thus they make more mistakes in identifying target shape. Together, the results suggested that people with depression could enhance thier visual perception by using entrainment paradigm that would provide improvements in the treatment of clinically diagnosed people.
