Özet

Bu çalışma, sömürgeciliğin asırlardır devam eden ve decolonisation sonrası bile sona ermeyen etkilerini ve bunun edebiyattaki izdüşümünü Edward Said'in sömürgecilik üzerine bakış açısı ve 'öteki' kavramını irdeleyerek gözler önüne sermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Decolonisation sonrası bayrak bağımsızlığı elde eden birçok ülke olmuştur ve bunların büyük çoğunluğu uzun yıllardır sömürülen Afrika kıtasındaki ülkelerdir. Fakat bayrak bağımsızlığı sadece de jure bir bağımsızlık getirmiştir ve bu yüzden Üçüncü Dünya diye bilinen Afrika, Asya ve Latin Amerika'nın sömürülen ülkeleri neo-colonialism diye tanımlanan sömürgecilik anlayışıyla hala sömürülmektedirler. Sözde bağımsızlık olgusu ve emperyalist sömürgeci Batılı güçlerin diğer halkları 'öteki' diye tanımlayarak sömürgeciliğe bir meşruiyet zemini oluşturması bu tezin başlıca meseleleri olacaktır. Bu sebepten ötürü, işgalleri ve sömürgeciliği destekleyen şeyin sadece askeri güç değil, aynı zamanda edebiyat ve bilhassa roman olduğu göz önünde bulundurulacaktır. Bu yüzden, roman türünün burjuvaziyle ve emperyalizmle ilişkisi incelenecek, bunun sömürgecilik tarihinde ne denli bir öneme sahip olduğu irdelenecektir. Bu sayede, roman vasıtasıyla burjuvazinin bir status quo inşa ettiği vurgulanacaktır. Bu sebepten ötürü, decolonisation sonrası ortaya çıkan ve sömürülen dünyanın anlatısını ve sömürgeciliğin mirasını resmeden postcolonial Anglophone novel ele alınacaktır. Sömürgeciliği ve sömürgeciliğin mirasını eleştiren bu roman türüyle, Üçüncü Dünya'nın çeşitli romancıları seslerini sömürgecinin diliyle yapmışlardır. Bu eğilimi ortaya çıkaran romancılardan ilki Chinua Achebe'dir. Nijerya doğumlu olan Achebe, Things Fall Apart eseriyle bir geleneğin öncüsü olmuştur. Bu sayede, Afrika yazılı edebiyatı bir devrim yaşamıştır. Achebe'nin yanı sıra Abdulrazak Gurnah da Desertion eseriyle postcolonial temsilde yirminci yüzyılın sonundan itibaren çok önemli bir yere sahip olmuştur. Bu sebeplerden ötürü, bu eserler merkeze alınarak sömürgeciliğin tarihi ve sömürgeleştirilmiş halklar üzerinde etkisi incelenecektir bu tezde.

This study aims to reveal the influences of colonialism that have been going on for centuries and have not ended even after decolonisation, and its projection in literature by examining Edward Said's point of view on colonialism and the concept of 'the other.' There have been many countries that have achieved flag independence after decolonisation, and the vast majority of them are countries on the African continent that were colonised for many years. But the independence of the flag brought only 'de jure' independence, which is why the colonised countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, known as the Third World, are still being exploited with an understanding of colonialism defined as neo-colonialism. The phenomenon of so-called independence and the fact that the imperialist, colonialist Western powers define other peoples as 'other' and create a ground of legitimacy for colonialism will be the main issues of this thesis. For this reason, it shall be taken into account that what supports occupation and colonialism is not only military power but also literature and especially the novel genre. Therefore, the relationship of the novel genre with the bourgeoisie and imperialism shall be examined, and the importance of this in the history of colonialism will be taken into consideration. In this way, it will be emphasised that the bourgeoisie has established a status quo through the novel genre. For this reason, the postcolonial Anglophone novel, which emerged after decolonisation and depicts the narrative of the exploited world and the legacy of colonialism, shall be considered. With this novel genre, which criticises colonialism and the legacy of colonialism, various novelists of the Third World have made their voices with the language of the colonialist. The first of the novelists who revealed this tendency is Chinua Achebe. Born in Nigeria, Achebe has pioneered a tradition with his work Things Fall Apart. Thanks to this, African written literature has experienced a revolution. In addition to Achebe, Abdulrazak Gurnah has also had a very important place in postcolonial representation since the end of the twentieth century with his work Desertion. For these reasons, the history of colonialism and its impact on colonised peoples will be examined by taking these works into the centre of this thesis.
