Parents play a crucial role in development of children especially during early years. They are the first people who engage in their children's life and this relationship affects children's development throughout their life. Parenting is a key part in children's development. It affects children's overall development. Culture and parenting are strongly related. Development of child is culturally constructed, and parents play a crucial role in molding their thinking processes, personalities and behavior. Social norms and values have important effects on attitudes of child rearing. People from different culture show different attitudes in parenting. People who live and grow in different cultures are affected from the environment in which they are immersed. People can maintain their own culture or adapt to other cultural values and norms. With increasing globalization parenting is subjected to transformations when families start to live among other societies of different cultures. The following research deals with the issue of the parenting in Turkish families. The focus of the research is oriented to understand the differences of parenting of Turkish families who live in Turkey and India, and to understand the changes in parenting roles of fathers and mothers in Turkish families. The general objective of the research is to understand the nature of parental involvement with children among Turkish families who live in Turkey and India. Moreover, according to general objective, this research aims to explore the different activities the parents engage with their children at home and to look into strategies used by parents to support their children's cultural identity with respect to language and culture with a focus on families in India. The sample size for this study was a total of 40 parents. These were inclusive of 30 families who were residing in Turkey and 10 families who were located in India. Purposive and convenient sampling was used to select families having children in the age group of 4-8 years. In this research questionnaire and interview method were used. The first section of questionnaire included family demographics (which required information about the number of family members, their ages, marital and cohabitation status, education, occupation, family income). The next section was focused on activities parents engaged in with their children, involvement of fathers, mothers or others in child care, strategies to support children's cultural identity such as festivals, imposing language, etc. Interview method was used to understand their experiences in detailed manner specifically with reference to language, culture and traditions. The finding reveals that there are apparent differences in raising children in Turkey and in India. There are number of advantages and disadvantages Turkish families see in raising their children in India. Children learn several languages in India other than their native language and they have quality of education. They learn how to live in a different culture and different people. As a negative aspect, children missed on familial relationships and their interactions with their extended family members. Some children did not know much about their relatives. Some of the families mentioned that their children grow far away from Turkish culture. The research explored the different activities the parents engage with their children. There are also changes in role of fathers and mothers of parental involvement in Turkish families residing in India with fathers engaging with their children's upbringing. The Turkish families who reside in India try to maintain their culture and native language in India. Suggestions, providing information to parents about child, training courses for parents, workshops, conferences, providing clear information about policies and programs, school classroom volunteering programs, networks to link all parents will improve the participation of parents and parent involvement. These will build awareness in families, understanding school programs and policies, know how to support their children and encourage them.
