Özet
Background: Recently, with globalisation, people's food preferences have shifted to fast food-style readyto-eat foods, and these foods have brought health problems such as obesity and diabetes in many developed and developing countries. Furthermore, waste food is a problem the world must face. To meet the population's food needs that will increase in the future, it is necessary to protect and ensure the sustainability of today's food. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the attitudes of young adults in the United Kingdom towards fastfood restaurants, especially McDonald's, and to present young adults' ideas about the health effects of food produced at McDonald's. Moreover, the behaviour and thoughts of consumers towards food waste in McDonald's restaurants were also examined. The Gap in the Literature: There are many studies on fast food in the literature, but not much research has been done on McDonald's. Moreover, while the subject of food waste is examined in general, the subject of food waste arising from the fast food sector is insufficient in the literature. Methodology: 116 respondents answered the survey, but only 104 young adults aged 18 to 36 living in the UK who met the survey requirements were surveyed. The results were analysed with Excel and SPSS programs and compared with other studies. Findings: Young adults are aware of the harms of fast food, but they continue to consume it due to its features such as fast service and affordable price. Gender, education level, marital status, household income and fast food consumption frequency are not statistically significant. One of the most preferred fast food restaurants among participants is McDonald's. There is no excellent awareness of food waste observed among the participants.
