Özet

Despite numerous studies on montage and its application in architecture, little is known about the different interpretations because of the predominant focus on its most famous representatives. Similarly, the majority of attributions to the technique of montage are limited to its general meaning of“assemblage,”even though it has other particular principles that make it valuable as a tool that serves as an inspiration for several applications. This study examines montage technique through Guido Canella's practices in order to present a different perspective on its application while also employing montage principles to better understand his architecture, which deserves greater recognition. This study primarily conducts an inquiry about the architecture of Canella, starting from the Italian context in order to find effective factors that contributed to the emergence of his architectural approach. Simultaneously, it establishes a general framework about Canella's design practice by focusing on his theoretical, didactic, and practical works that carry montage principles and finding the affiliation between these works. In this process, it examines the theory of montage and employs its principles derived from the film practices to describe his architecture, and at the end, it provides an expert point of view through an interview with a scholar specialized in the research topic. The methodologies employed in this study to characterize the architecture of Canella in relation to the principles of montage can also be utilized in future studies to examine the works of other architects whose methods can be linked to the theory of montage. Through the works of Canella, the research also demonstrates that architecture's relationship with history, preliminary practices, and other disciplines offers limitless possibilities. What it can be deduced from this study is an appreciation of the significance of these relationships for developing more effective answers to the present and future problems of society.
