In Chapter 1 we give a survey of r e su lts which are releven t to th is t h e s is . We s ta te some of M acintyre's and C h erlin 's r e su lts and give f u ll proof of Z il'b e r 's r e su lts on groups of f in it e Morley rank. In Chapter 2 we prove that the commutator subgroup o f a solvab le connected group o f f in it e Morley rank is n ilp o te n t. In Chapters 3 and 4 we in v e stig a te groups of rank 3. The an a ly sis i s not complete and there are sev era l open problems (mainly in Chapter 4 where we look at non-solvable connected groups o f Morley rank 3 ). In Chapter 5 we look at the d efin ab le subgroups o f a product of two groups and we show that i f H i s a d efin a b le subgroup o f x then there are
