Özet
Asya ve Avrupa arasında bağlantıyı sağlayan Varna şehri stratejik konumu ile tarihte çağdaş devletlerin hâkimiyet kurmak istediği bir yer olmuştur. Osmanlı Devleti, şehri XIV. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru topraklarına katmayı başarmıştır. XIX. Yüzyılda Varna Şehri başlıklı bu çalışma ile Osmanlı idaresinden beş yüzyıldan fazla bir süre kalan şehrin fizikî, idarî, sosyal, demografik ve iktisadi yapısı başta şerʻiyye sicilleri olmak üzere diğer arşiv belgeleri ışığında ele alınarak bir bütün halinde ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Konunun gereği olarak Osmanlı tarihi ile ilgili bilgilere de genel mahiyette yer verilmiştir. Çalışmada, Varna şehrinin idari yapısı yapılan düzenlemeler neticesinde birçok defa değişikliğe uğradığı tespit edilmiştir. Şehir, uzun bir süre Rumeli Eyaleti'nin Silistre Sancağı'na bağlı bir kaza olarak idare edildikten sonra XIX. yüzyılın ilk yarısının sonlarına doğru sancak statüsüne çıkartılmıştır. Söz konusu sancak 1864 yılında kurulan Tuna Vilayeti'ni oluşturan sancaklardan biri olmuştur. İdari yapı hakkında bilgi verildikten sonra şehirde bulunan dinî, sosyal ve kültürel yapılar ile ticari alanlar ve resmi kurumlar ortaya çıkartılarak dönemin umumi manzarası gösterilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bunların yanında şehirde yaşayan Müslim ve gayrimüslim halkın tahmini nüfusu, aile yapısı, birbirleriyle olan ilişkileri ve günlük hayatta kullandığı eşyalar tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca şehirde yaşanan gasp, hırsızlık, katl ve yaralama gibi asayiş olayları ile birlikte şehrin iktisadi ve ticari yapısına da yer verilmiştir. Çalışmada elde edilen tüm bu bulguların XIX. yüzyılda Varna şehrinin idarî, sosyal, demografik ve iktisadi yapısının temel dinamiklerinin ortaya çıkarılmasına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir

The city of Varna, which provides the connection between Asia and Europe, has been a place where modern states wanted to dominate in history with its strategic location. The Ottoman Empire succeeded in adding the city to its lands towards the end of the 19th century. With this study titled Varna City in the 19th Century, it is aimed to reveal the physical, administrative, social, demographic and economic structure of the city, which remained from the Ottoman administration for more than five centuries, in the light of other archive documents, especially the sharia records. As a requirement of the subject, information about the Ottoman history is also given in a general nature. In the study, it has been determined that the administrative structure of the city of Varna has changed many times as a result of the regulations. After the city was ruled as a district of the Silistra sanjak of the Rumelian province for a long time, it was raised to the status of a sanjak towards the end of the first half of the 19th century. The aforementioned sanjak became one of the sanjaks that formed the Danube Province, which was established in 1864. After giving information about the administrative structure, the religious, social and cultural structures, commercial areas and official institutions in the city were revealed and the general view of the period was tried to be shown. In addition to these, the estimated population of the Muslim and non-Muslimpeople living in the city, their family structure, their relations with each other and the items they use in daily life were determined. In addition, the economic and commercial structure of the city, along with the security events such as extortion, theft, murder and injury, are also included. It is thought that all these findings obtained in the study will contribute to revealing the basic dynamics of the administrative, social, demographic and economic structure of the city of Varna in the 19th century.
