Özet
Tez konusunun seçilmesindeki ana unsur, Covid-19 pandemisinin perakende sektörü üzerine yapılan bilimsel çalışma sayısının azlığı ve bu sebeple bu alandaki literatüre katkı yapmaktır. Bu bağlamda bu tez çalışmasının temel amacı küresel salgının Türkiye ekonomisinde perakende sektörü mali performansına etkilerini analiz etmektir. Çalışmanın araştırma kısmında, sektör ve firma düzeyinde mali analiz teknikleri yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Covid-19 Salgının olumsuz etkilerin büyüklüğü sektörlere ve ülkelere göre farklılık göstermiştir. Özellikle turizm, eğitim hizmetler gibi sektörlerde olumsuz etkiler daha fazla kendisini gösterirken, gıda, sağlık, ilaç ve lojistik sektörlerinde talebin artmasına yol açmıştır. Diğer yandan, Covid-19 pandemisinin yayılma etkilerini azaltmak için alışveriş merkezleri ve mağazaların kapatılması perakende sektöründe fiziki kanallardan alışveriş hacmini olumsuz etkilerken, e-ticaret üzerinden bu olumsuzluk dengelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, Covid-19 pandemisi döneminde Türkiye perakende sektörü gıda perakendecileri cirolarını artırırken, gıda dışı perakendeciler ise Covid-19 pandemisi döneminde ciroları azalış göstermiştir. Covid-19 pandemisine bağlı olarak Türkiye perakende ticaret hacim ve ciro endeksi 2020 Nisan-Mayıs döneminde daralma göstermiştir. Ancak perakende sektörü Covid-19 pandemisinin olumsuz etkilerini hızla atlatabilmiştir. Firma bazında analiz sonuçlarında ise firmalara göre kârlılık ve büyüme oranlar farklı oranda etkilenmesine karşın, özellikle gıda perakende sektörü Covid-19 pandemisinden en az olumsuz etkilenen sektör olmuştur. Ülkemizde gelecek krizlerden sektörlerin en az etkilenmesi için kriz ve risk yönetim yaklaşımlarını güçlendirmeleri önem arz etmektedir.

The main factor in the selection of the thesis topic is the scarcity of scientific studies on the retail sector of the Covid-19 pandemic and therefore to contribute to the literature in this field. In this context, the main objective of this thesis is to analyse the effects of the pandemic on the financial performance of the retail sector in the Turkish economy. In the research part of the study, financial analysis techniques at sector and firm level were used. The magnitude of the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic varied by sectors and countries. Especially in sectors such as tourism, education and services, the negative effects were more pronounced, while it led to an increase in demand in the food, health, medicine and logistics sectors. On the other hand, while the closure of shopping malls and stores to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic negatively affected the shopping volume through physical channels in the retail sector, this negativity was tried to be balanced through e-commerce. As a result, while food retailers in the Turkish retail sector increased their turnover during the Covid-19 pandemic, non-food retailers decreased their turnover during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Turkey's retail trade volume and turnover index contracted in April-May 2020. However, the retail sector was able to quickly overcome the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the results of the company-based analysis, although profitability and growth rates were affected at different rates according to the companies, especially the food retail sector was the least negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is important for sectors to strengthen their crisis and risk management approaches in order to minimize the impact of future crises in our country.
