Özet
Ortaçağ'da İncil'i anlama ihtiyacına dayanan yorumlamacılık, okuyucuya şu anda anlaşılmayı bekleyen metni şekillendirme fırsatı sunar. Destekleyici ayrıntılar mevcut olduğu sürece, bir metni yorumlamanın bir sınırı veya tek bir doğru anlamı yoktur. Yorumlayıcı yaklaşım böyle bir özgürlük sunduğundan, Aldous Huxley'in ünlü romanları Cesur Yeni Dünya ve Ada da çeşitli yorumlara konu olmuştur. Özellikle Cesur Yeni Dünya için romanın teknolojiyi kötüye kullanarak toplumu manipüle eden ve bireyselliğini yok eden bir distopya mı yoksa hastalık, üzüntü ve yaşlılığın sona erdiği bir ütopya mı olduğu konusunda bir fikir birliği yoktur. Bununla birlikte, incelenen çalışmalarda Cesur Yeni Dünya'nın genel yorumunun, toplumu geleceğin korkunç sonuçları konusunda uyarmak için romanda teknoloji ile insanlık arasındaki savaşı konu aldığı, Ada romanının yorumlarının ise tasvir edilen yönetim biçiminin ve toplumsal düzenin daha ütopik bir tasvire yöneldiğini öne sürdüğü gözlemlenmiştir. Dolayısıyla romanlarda yenilikçi yaklaşımların benimsenmesi konusunda literatürde bir açık olduğu belirtilmiş olup, bu çalışmada Huxley'in romanları yazarken farklı bir niyet taşıdığı ve genel kanının aksine toplumun başka bir sorununu eleştirdiği ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu yoruma ulaşmak için Modern Dönem ve Huxley'in hayatıyla sınırlı kalacak tarihsel/biyografik yaklaşımdan yararlanılacak ve Huxley'in olası niyeti, Irvin Yalom'un dört ana başlık altında topladığı Modern Dönem kaygılarını kapsayan varoluşçu psikolojik yaklaşım açısından analiz edilecektir. Son olarak yeni yorumu desteklemek için Huxley'in diğer romanı Ada da Yalom'un belirttiği dört kaygı ile birleştirilerek Gestalt Terapisi ile yorumlanmıştır. Çalışmada Huxley'in romanlarındaki eleştirisinin yalnızca teknoloji kullanımı veya yönetim biçimi değil, modern toplumun bozulan psikolojik durumu olduğu ortaya konulmuştur.

Interpretivism, which dates back to the need to understand the Bible in the Middle Ages, offers the reader the opportunity to shape the text that is currently waiting to be understood. As long as supporting details are available, there is no limit or single correct meaning to interpret a text. Since the interpretive approach offers such freedom, Aldous Huxley's famous novels Brave New World and Island have also been subject to various interpretations. Especially for Brave New World, there is no consensus on whether the novel is a dystopia that manipulates society and destroys its individuality by abusing technology or whether it is a utopia where illness, sadness, and old age end. Nevertheless, in the studies reviewed, it has been observed that the general interpretation of Brave New World is the war between technology and humanity in the novel in order to warn society about the terrible consequences of the future while interpretations of the novel Island suggest that the governance style and social order depicted lean towards a more utopian representation. Therefore, it has been noted that there is a lack in the literature regarding the adaptation of innovative approaches to the novels, and this study aims to reveal that, Huxley had a different intention when writing the novels and that he was criticizing another problem of society contrary to the general opinion. To achieve this interpretation, the historical/biographical approach, which will be limited to the Modern Period and Huxley's life, is utilized, and Huxley's possible intention discussed in terms of the existential psychological approach that encompasses the concerns of the Modern Period, which Irvin Yalom grouped under four main headings. Finally, to support the new interpretation, Huxley's other novel, Island, is also interpreted with the use of Gestalt Therapy by combining it with the four aspects mentioned by Yalom. This study claims that Huxley's criticism in his novels was not simply the use of technology or the form of governance but the deteriorating psychological state of modern society.
