Sayfa:101 JürkProf.Dr. Fehmi Efe (Başkan) Bu çalışmamızın amacı, 20.yüzyıl İngiliz Tiyatrosu'nun adından çokça söz ettiren oyun yazarı Joe Orton'un (1933-1967) oyunlarındaki şiddetin cinsel ve ruhbilimsel boyutlarını incelemektir. Orton'un oyunlarında karşımıza çıkan şiddetin yapısına geçmeden önce“Giriş”bölümünde şiddet kavramını genel hatları ile tanımlamaya çalışarak bu konuda söz sahibi değişik bilim adamlarının bu konudaki görüşlerine yer verdik. Bunun yanısıra, Joe Orton'un İngiliz Tiyatrosundaki yerini belirlemeye çalıştık. Hiç kuşku yok ki, şiddet gibisinden bir olguyu bir yazar ile sınırlı tutmak pek de olanaklı değildir. Bu yüzden bu çalışmamızın, Joe Orton'un oyunlarındaki şiddetin cinsel ve ruhbilimsel boyutları ile sınırlanmasının uygun olacağı düşüncesindeyiz. Orton'un cinselliği ve birlikte getirdiği şiddeti günümüz toplumunun sorunlarından biri olarak gördüğü ise yadsınmaz bir gerçektir. Şiddetin kuşkusuz kaynaklandığı bir çok noktadan biri olan cinselliği ön plana çıkarması rastlantısal değildir Orton'un. Gerek kendi cinsel tercihi, yaşam deneyimleri, gerekse cinsellik üzerine toplumsal bağlamda gözlemlediği önyargılar Orton'un böyle bir yola başvurmasına neden olmuştur denebilir. Oyunlarında sürekli olarak şiddete yer vermesine karşın toplumsal düzendeki yapıyı kökten değiştirme yanlısı olduğunu söyleyemeyiz. Bu çalışmamızda Orton'un oyunlarındaki şiddetin cinsel ve ruhbilimsel boyutlarını oyunların yazılış sırasına göre inceledik.

Pages:101 Jury: Prof. Dr. Fehmi EFE This study aims to analyze the sexual and psychological dimensions of violence in the plays of Joe Orton, an outstanding playwright of the English Theatre in the 20 th century. Before analyzing the structure of violence met in Orton's plays, we tried to define the term“violence”in the“Introduction”part and pointed out the ideas of some critics on the subject in general. In addition to this, we attempted to examine Joe Orton's place in Contemporary English Theatre. It is, of course, not probable to confine a subject as violence to a playwright. So, we are in the opinion of limiting our study with the sexual and psychological dimensions of violence in Joe Orton's plays. It is clearly a fact that Orton sees sexuality and the violence in it as one of the problems of today. It is hard to say that violence stems solely from a source and sexuality as one of these sources plays an important role in Orton's plays and this is, by no means, accidental. Both his own sexuality, his life experiences and social judgements on sexuality may have led him to handle such a theme. And, although he always deals with violence in his plays it is hard to say that Orton is on the side of changing the social structure radically. We examined the sexual and psychological dimensions of violence in Orton's in the order of their written dates.
