Özet
Tarihte ve günümüzde Akdeniz ve Orta Doğu'da güçler dengesini elinde tutmak isteyen her devlet Kıbrıs ile yakından ilgilenmekte ve kendisine adanın stratejik unsurlarından pay çıkarmak için gayret göstermektedir. Günümüzde Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti ve Güney Kıbrıs Rum Yönetimi olarak ayrılan Kıbrıs adası, iki farklı topluma hayat vermektedir. Kıbrıs Türklerinin bugünkü yaşamına yön veren olaylar Osmanlı Devleti'nin 1878 yılında Kıbrıs Yönetimini İngiltere'ye devretmesiyle başlamıştır. Kıbrıs Türklerinin İngiliz yönetimi itibariyle maruz kaldığı baskı ve sonrasında soy kırıma varan terör olaylarının son bulması adına Türkiye uluslararası girişimlerde bulunmuştur. Kıbrıs Türklerinin kaybettiği siyasi, sosyal ve ekonomik haklarını geri kazanmak için Türkiye ile Kıbrıs Türk liderlerinin yürüttüğü diplomasi sonucu Kıbrıs Türk ve Rum toplumları tarafından ortaklaşa 15 Ağustos 1960 tarihinde Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti ilân edilmiştir. Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti'nin ilânına rağmen Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun Kıbrıs Anayasasında belirlenmiş olan hakları Rum yöneticiler tarafından tekrar ilga edilmiş ve Türkiye'nin çözüm arayışlarına rağmen Yunan Cuntası 15 Temmuz 1974 tarihinde Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti'ne darbe yapmıştır. Yunan Cuntasının Kıbrıs'ta gerçekleştirdiği darbe, adada hem Türk hem de Rum toplumunun demokratik haklarına zarar vermiş dahası Kıbrıs'ın Yunanistan'a ilhakının ilân edilmesiyle Kıbrıs Türklerinin adadaki can güvenliği açısından tehlike arz etmiştir. 1974 Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtının Kıbrıs'ta yaşayan Türk ve Rum toplumlarının demokratik haklarını geri kazandırması ve Kıbrıs'ı Yunan Darbesinden kurtararak adada Türkler için güvenli bir bölge oluşturulması neticesi göz önüne alınınca 1974 Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtının önemi daha iyi anlaşılmaktadır. Tezin amacı; Günümüzde sadece Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarafından tanınan Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluşuna giden süreçte ve öncesinde Kıbrıs Türklerinin yaşadıkları zorlu şartlar altındaki siyasi, sosyal ve ekonomik durumlarını inceleyerek Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtının önemini ve gerekliliğini araştırmaktır. Türkiye dışında diğer devletlerin ve BM'nin tanımadığı Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti toplumunun tarihte vatana ve bir devlete nasıl ihtiyaç duyduğunu, ait oldukları toprakları korumak uğruna verdikleri mücadele tezde ele alınmıştır.

In history and today, every state that wants to keep the balance of power in the Mediterranean and the Middle East is closely interested in Cyprus and endeavours to gain a share from the strategic elements of the island. Today, the island of Cyprus, which is divided into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, gives life to two different communities. The events that shaped the current life of the Turkish Cypriots started in 1878 when the Ottoman Empire handed over the administration of Cyprus to Britain. Turkey has made international initiatives in order to end the oppression of the Turkish Cypriots under the British rule and the terrorist incidents that led to genocide. As a result of the diplomacy carried out with Turkey to regain the political, social and economic rights lost by the Turkish Cypriots, the Republic of Cyprus was declared jointly by the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities on 15 August 1960. Despite the proclamation of the Republic of Cyprus, the rights of the Turkish Cypriot community, which were determined in the Constitution of Cyprus, were repealed by the Greek Cypriot rulers and despite Turkey's search for a solution, the Greek Junta staged a coup d'état against the Republic of Cyprus on 15 July 1974. The coup d'état carried out by the Greek Junta in Cyprus damaged the democratic rights of both the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities on the island, moreover, with the annexation of Cyprus to Greece, it posed a danger to the life safety of the Turkish Cypriots on the island. The 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation restored the democratic rights of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities living in Cyprus and created a safe zone for the Turks on the island by liberating Cyprus from the Greek coup d'état. The aim of the thesis is to examine the political, social and economic situation of the Turkish Cypriots under the difficult conditions they lived under before and during the process leading to the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognised only by the Republic of Turkey today. The struggle of the Turkish Cypriot community in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is not recognised by other states other than Turkey and the UN, to protect the land they belong to and how they need a homeland and a state in history has been investigated.
