Özet
In today's world, consumers are more aware of and worried about climate change (Euromonitor International, 2021). Although consumers are making more sustainable choices, sustainable travel, such as the use of electric vehicles is still emerging and the market shares for electric vehicles are still very low (Euromonitor International, 2021). Worldwide, transportation is responsible for a large part of carbon dioxide emissions (Jansson et al., 2017). This makes consumers' vehicle type choices and the replacement of conventional vehicles with electric vehicles very critical to solving traffic-related air pollution due to carbon dioxide emissions (Liu et al., 2021). In addition, serious action is taken by the governments through the implementation of restrictions and regulations to reduce the use of fossil fuel vehicles (Euromonitor International, 2021). Due to indicated reasons, in this research, it is aimed to find out the psychological factors affecting consumers' behavioural intentions for electric vehicle adoption with a global approach. In this research, the global approach points out that the data is collected from consumers with diverse backgrounds to obtain more general insights about consumers' behavioural intentions for electric vehicle adoption. It is also aimed to find out the degree of relationship between those factors and adoption willingness. Based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the research model is formed. In this research, a quantitive approach is applied and an online survey in London resulting in 142 qualified respondents is conducted. The data gathered from the respondents is analysed in IBM SPSS Software and linear regression analysis is conducted to test the factors included in the research model. The results of the statistical analysis show that the attitude variables charging infrastructure, range and battery life do not influence consumers' behavioural intentions for electric vehicle adoption whereas subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and the attitude variables economic benefit and low carbon emissions influence consumers' behavioural intentions for electric vehicle adoption. The results also show that the proportion of the variation in adoption willingness is the highest with perceived behavioural control followed by attitudes-low carbon emissions, subjective norms and attitudes-economic benefit. In addition to the quantitive approach, one open question is included in this research. The reasons for including one open question are to understand what consumers think about electric vehicles to have a general idea Gulse Balcioglu 001187238 Page 8 of 71 and to find out other factors that might affect consumers' behavioural intentions for electric vehicle adoption. Based on the results of this research, recommendations and implications are also included along with limitations to contribute to academia, future research, government policies and electric vehicle manufacturers' future strategies.
