The reduction of nitroaromatic compounds to amino aromatic compounds is important for environmental applications and organic synthesis processes. Recently, due to its high catalytic activity, much focus has been placed on the use of NaBH4 in metal catalysis to reduce aromatic compounds with nitro groups. However, metallic silver particles have emerged as a more cost-effective alternative for the reduction of toxic nitroaromatic compounds to aniline derivatives. In this thesis, Amberlite IR-120 resin was used as a catalyst support for metallic silver particles on its surface. The prepared Amberlit IR-120 heterogeneous catalyst system was used to catalyze the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, 2-nitroaniline, 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine and 2,4-dinitrophenol to aniline derivatives with NaBH4. The catalytic performance of the Ag(0)@Amberlite IR-120 resin system was studied with different amounts of NaBH4 (4, 6 and 8 mg) and catalyst (5, 3 and 7 mg). In the experimental studies, the reduction of the nitroaromatic compound of 2-nitroaniline occurred in the shortest time (28 s) and the reaction was terminated. In addition, reusability studies of the Amberlit IR-120 heterogeneous catalyst system were carried out with the nitroaromatic compound of 2-nitroaniline. Surface characterization by SEM analysis and silver content measurements by ICP-OES analysis were completed. SEM analysis showed that there were pores, roughness and breaks on the catalyst surface. These surface changes reduced the effectiveness of the catalyst. ICP-OES analysis showed that the amount of silver on the catalyst surface was 10.99 ppm in the first measurement and 10.43 and 9.44 ppm after reuse. According to these results, it was confirmed that the amount of silver decreased and silver release occurred. As a result of the regeneration study, reuse of the catalyst caused ruptures and pore formation on the catalyst surface. These ruptures on the catalyst surface, pore formation and silver loss reduced the reaction rate and catalyst efficiency.
