This study explores the historical development of steel and glass in architecture, their impact on architectural space in this process and their contribution to the shaping of space, and investigates their future potentials. The aesthetic and functional advantages of steel and glass materials, whose use in architecture accelerated with the Industrial Revolution, have created new possibilities in the shaping of architectural space. Steel, with its strong and flexible structure, allows large openings to be crossed, while glass, with its natural light transmission and transparency, makes spaces more spacious and wider. These two materials have brought concepts such as spatial flexibility, lightness and transparency to the forefront, especially in modern architecture, and have radically changed the production processes of architectural space. The integration of steel and glass has both structurally and aesthetically strengthened buildings that are symbols of contemporary architecture. The Crystal Palace (1851), one of the first major examples of the integration of steel and glass, revolutionized architecture and laid the foundation for modern buildings. The process that began with this building allowed steel and glass to be used in increasingly innovative ways in the production of architectural space. Over time, the structural and aesthetic advantages offered by these materials have contributed to the development of new design approaches. This development process continues today with innovative buildings such as the Teknosphere Building Project, revealing how steel and glass are transformed by today's technologies and how these materials can be a pre-project for the autonomous cities of the future. In this context, the study contributes to the literature by addressing the role of steel and glass in the production of architectural space with a holistic approach in the context of historical development process and contemporary technological innovations in order to determine the historical process, technological development and importance of these materials in the production of architectural space.
