Özet
Bu tez Aristoteles'in mutluluk görüşünü ve bu görüşün farklı yorumlarını incelemektedir. Literatürde Aristoteles'in mutluluk görüşünün iki farklı yorumu mevcuttur. Genel olarak kapsayıcı yorum, mutluluğun tek bir değerli etkinlik biçimine indirgenemeyeceğini, dışlayıcı yorum ise mutluluğun tek bir etkinlik biçimine, teoria etkinliğine işaret ettiğini savunur. Bu tezde, Aristoteles'in mutluluk kavramının ne yalnızca kapsayıcı ne de yalnızca dışlayıcı bir yorumla açıklanamayacağını savunuyorum. Tezin iddiası Aristoteles'in mutluluk kavramının iyi olan şeyleri içererek aşan hiyerarşik bir yapıda olduğudur. Fakat tezin amacı, Aristoteles'in mutluluk görüşü üzerine oluşan tartışmanın bir sonuca bağlanması değil, söz konusu tartışmanın ne yalnızca kapsayıcı ne de yalnızca dışlayıcı olan alternatif bir yorumunu göstermeye çalışmaktır.

This thesis examines Aristotle's conception of happiness and its different interpretations. There are two different interpretations of Aristotle's conception of happiness in the literature. In general, the inclusive interpretation argues that happiness cannot be reduced to a single form of valuable activity, while the exclusive interpretation argues that happiness refers to a single form of activity, namely the activity of contemplation. In this thesis, I argue that Aristotle's concept of happiness cannot be fully explained by either the inclusive or the exclusive interpretation alone. The claim of the thesis is that Aristotle's concept of happiness has a hierarchical structure that transcends by including things that are good. However, the goal of the thesis is not to conclude the debate over Aristotle's conception of happiness, but to show an alternative interpretation of the debate that is neither merely inclusive nor merely exclusive.
