Özet

“Le Guin'in ”Vaster Than Empires and More Slow“ (2004), The Word for World Is Forest (1976), ”Schrödinger's Cat“ (1982), Always Coming Home (1986) adlı yapıtlarının eko-merkezci anlamlandırılmasında çevre etiği”başlıklı bu tez, insanın doğa üzerindeki tahakkümü açısından bir çevre sorunu olarak doğanın sömürülmesinin nedenlerini incelemektedir..“Vaster Than Empires and More Slow”(Le Guin, 2004), The Word for World Is Forest (Le Guin, 1976),“Schrödinger's Cat”(Le Guin, 1982), Always Coming Home (Le Guin, 1986) kitaplarında insan ve doğa arasındaki güç yapısını bilinç ve vicdan bağlamında eleştirel bir biçimde ekoeleştirinin merceğinden inceliyor.

This thesis,“Environmental ethics in the ecocentric signification of Le Guin's ”Vaster Than Empires and More Slow“ (2004), The Word for World Is Forest (1976), ”Schrödinger's Cat“ (1982), Always Coming Home (1986), studies the reasons for the exploitation of nature as an environmental issue in terms of the human dominance over nature. It critically examines power structure between humans and nature in the context of consciousness and conscience in ”Vaster Than Empires and More Slow“ (Le Guin, 2004), The Word for World Is Forest (Le Guin, 1976), ”Schrödinger's Cat" (Le Guin, 1982), Always Coming Home (Le Guin, 1986) through the lens of ecocriticism. Based on the theoretical framework of ecocriticism, this study critically analyzes how these texts reveal the ideological and philosophical aspects of dichotomy between human species and nature. The thesis looks into how humans and nature are portrayed in these texts in an effort to show the ways of attaining a more sustainable, resilient, social and ecological structure by the change of the mindset on human cognition based on Cartesian dualism which is dependent on the body and mind dichotomy. By doing so, this study examines power relations based on cognition between humans and nature thanks to ecocriticism revisioned through the lens of the cognitive tools like 4E1A Cognition Model and Lakoff's and Johnson's Cognitive Linguistic Metaphor Concept. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship based on cognition between humans and nature because human cognition model sees humans are separate from nature because human mind is superior over body and thus nature.
