Özet
Bu çalışma, Zygmunt Bauman'ın sosyolojik perspektifinden hareketle, modern dünyada“öteki”kavramının inşa edilme ve yorumlanma biçimlerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma süreci boyunca yalnızca teorik kaynaklar üzerinden değil, aynı zamanda derinlikli bir felsefi sorgulama çerçevesinde de değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Modernitenin toplumsal yapılar üzerindeki etkisi, bireyin“öteki”ne yönelik bakış açısı ve bu bakışın toplumsal karşılıkları, çalışmanın düşünsel temelini oluşturmuştur. Tez sürecinde bana rehberlik eden, eleştirel düşünme yetimi geliştirmemde katkı sağlayan ve sabırla desteğini sürdüren değerli danışman hocama en içten teşekkürlerimi sunarım. Akademik yaşamım boyunca manevi desteğini her zaman yanımda hissettiren aileme ve dostlarıma da şükranlarımı ifade etmek isterim. Bu tez, yalnızca akademik bir tartışma alanı yaratmayı değil; aynı zamanda çağımızın toplumsal sorunlarını farklı bir bakış açısından değerlendirebilme imkânı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.

This thesis examines how the figure of the“Other”is constructed in modern societies and how it is represented and excluded at the social level, in line with Zygmunt Bauman's sociological thought. Drawing on Bauman's works Modernity and the Holocaust, Globalization: The Human Consequences, Legislators and Interpreters, and Strangers at Our Door, the study analyzes practices of“othering”within the framework of concepts such as modernity, bureaucracy, rationality, security discourse, migration, refugeeness, and ethical responsibility. The study questions how modern societies make the figure of the“Other”both necessary and functional in the process of defining their own identity, within the context of Bauman's critique of modernity. Through the phenomena of the Holocaust, migration, xenophobia, and the loss of individual moral responsibility, it is revealed that modernity has established systematic mechanisms of exclusion and invisibilization toward the Other. By employing textual analysis and critical interpretation of Bauman's works, the thesis demonstrates that the Other is not merely a historical figure, but also a concept that remains relevant today in the context of issues such as migration, identity, and globalization.
