Özet
Amaç: Bu tez çalışmasında, Alman sanatçı Joseph Beuys'un plastik eserlerinde ve performanslarında kullandığı balın sembolik değeri ve arı metaforunun sanatsal işlevinin sanatçının“Sosyal Plastik Sanat”teorisi çerçevesinden incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Tezde nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Nitel veri toplama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Gözlem ve doküman analizi yapılmıştır. Beuys'un sanat anlayışı ve düşünce yapısını niteleyen 'Sosyal heykel' kavramını ele alan teorik çalışma, sanatsal uygulama çalışmasıyla paralel olarak yürütülmüştür. Bulgular: Toplumsal değişim ve dönüşüm için sanatı bir araç olarak gören ve bunu sanatının temel amacı olarak belirginleştiren Joseph Beuys, yaşamın döngüselliğini dayanışma içinde sürdüren arılara gönderme yaparak insan topluluklarını değiştirip dönüştürmeye odaklı plastik sanat teorisini ortaya koymuştur. Pek çok sanat çalışmasında arıları ve arı ürünlerini doğrudan veya dolaylı bir şekilde çalışmalarına dahil eden sanatçı, çağdaş sanatın en etkili figürlerinden biri olmuştur. Sonuç: Hayvanlara karşı duyarlı ve tabiatta düşkün bir sanatçı olan Joseph Beuys'un yapmış olduğu çalışmalarında bal arısı metaforu kullanarak ilettiği sanatsal ifade, bal arısının yaşam şeklinin insan topluluğuna benzerliğini esas almaktadır. Toplum ile arılar arasında kurulan metaforik bağ, ideal toplum düzenine gönderme yapmaktadır. Arıların ekolojik dengeye katkılarının bilinip tanınmasının yanı sıra, yaşam deneyimlerinin sanatsal pratiğe aktarılmasının ve hayat ile sanat arasındaki bağın kurulmasının işlevsel önemi ortaya çıkmaktadır.

Purpose: This thesis aims to examine the symbolic value of honey and the artistic function of the bee metaphor used by German artist Joseph Beuys in his plastic works and performances within the framework of the artist's 'Social Plastic Art' theory. Method: Qualitative research methods were utilised in the thesis. A qualitative data collection method was employed. Observation and document analysis were conducted. The theoretical study, which addressed the concept of“social sculpture”characterising Beuys's understanding of art and thought structure, was carried out in parallel with the artistic application study. Findings: Joseph Beuys, who saw art as a tool for social change and transformation and made this the fundamental aim of his art, developed a theory of plastic art focused on changing and transforming human communities, referring to bees that sustain the cyclical nature of life through cooperation. The artist, who has directly or indirectly incorporated bees and bee products into many of his artworks, has become one of the most influential figures in contemporary art. Results: Joseph Beuys, an artist who was sensitive to animals and fond of nature, used the metaphor of the honeybee in his works to convey an artistic expression based on the similarity between the honeybee's way of life and that of human society. The metaphorical connection established between society and bees refers to the ideal social order. In addition to the recognition of bees' contribution to ecological balance, the functional importance of transferring their life experiences into artistic practice and establishing a connection between life and art becomes apparent.
