Özet
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. The aim of this study is to comprehensively examine the effects of exercise and physical activity interventions on motor skill development, levels of social interaction, and behavioral adaptation in individuals with ASD. Previous research has addressed the possible causes of motor impairments frequently observed in individuals with autism, the effects of physical activity on physiological and psychological mechanisms, and the role of movement education in the developmental process. The reviewed scientific studies indicate that regular and structured physical activity and fundamental movement education practices lead to significant improvements in gross and fine motor skills of individuals with ASD, support social interaction, and contribute to a reduction in problem behaviors. In the present study, a 12-week movement education exercise program was implemented with individuals with ASD aged between 6 and 10 years. Assessments were conducted using the short form of the Bruininks–Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2). Based on the findings obtained, it can be stated that exercise and movement education constitute a holistic intervention approach that positively affects not only the physical but also the social and emotional development of individuals with ASD. In this context, the implementation of exercise programs structured according to individual needs from early childhood is considered an important factor that enhances the effectiveness of educational and therapeutic processes.
