Özet
Bu tez çalışması, Thorstein Bunde Veblen'in iktisadi düşünceye yönelik özgün katkılarını kurumsal iktisadın tarihsel gelişimi bağlamında değerlendirmeye çalışmakta, neoklasik iktisada yönelik eleştirilerini kurumsal ve yöntemsel temeller çerçevesinde detaylı olarak incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. T. B. Veblen yirminci yüzyılın başlarında yaşadığı dönemin egemen teorisini tümüyle reddeden görüşleriyle iktisadi düşüncenin gelişmesini sağlayan önemli heterodoks iktisatçılardan biridir. Kurumcu okulun kurucusu sayılan Veblen, ana akım iktisadı gerçeklikten ve bilimsellikten uzak bulmuş, ilgili akımı düzeltmeye gayret etmeden tümüyle yıkmayı hedeflemiş, neoklasik iktisat yerine iktisat, psikoloji, sosyoloji, antropoloji ve tarihi kapsayan bir teori inşa etmeye çalışmıştır. Amerikan akademiyasının öne çıkan muhaliflerinden biri olan Veblen, iktisadın matematiksel modelleme arenası olmadığına vurgu yapmış, iktisadın odak noktasında kurumsal yapının gelişiminin olması gerektiğini ileri sürmüştür. Darwinci evrim teorisini iktisada entegre etmeye çabalayan Veblen, kapitalizmi de eleştirmiş, ilgili sistemin halkı ezerken zengin sınıfı yücelttiğine dikkat çekmiştir. Kurum anlayışı, gösterişçi tüketim, değer ve kriz teorisi Veblen'in iktisadi düşünceye önemli katkılarından bazılarıdır. Çalışmada literatür taraması yönteminden faydalanılmış olup, konuyla ilgili yerli ve yabancı kaynaklara başvurulmuştur. Çalışmada özellikle Veblen'in temel eserlerinin irdelenmesine büyük önem verilmiş, böylece yazarın perspektifi doğrudan ve net olarak ortaya koyulmaya çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, Veblen'in ana akım teorinin yetersizliklerini farkeden çağının ötesinde bir iktisatçı olduğunu, literatüre kazandırdığı yeni kavramlarla ve reformist yönüyle iktisadi düşüncenin yelpazesini önemli ölçüde genişlettiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

This thesis endeavours to evaluate Thorstein Bunde Veblen's original contributions to economic thought within the context of the historical development of institutional economics, aiming to examine his critiques of neoclassical economics in detail within institutional and methodological frameworks. T. B. Veblen was one of the important heterodox economists who contributed to the development of economic thought with his views that completely rejected the dominant theory of his time in the early twentieth century. Considered the founder of the institutionalist school, Veblen found mainstream economics to be detached from reality and scientific rigour. Rather than attempting to reform the prevailing school of thought, he aimed to dismantle it entirely, seeking to construct a theory encompassing economics, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and history in place of neoclassical economics. One of the prominent dissidents in American academia, Veblen emphasised that economics was not a field for mathematical modelling and argued that the development of institutional structures should be the focus of economics. Attempting to integrate Darwinian evolutionary theory into economics, Veblen also criticised capitalism, pointing out that the system oppressed the masses while elevating the wealthy class. The concepts of institutions, conspicuous consumption, value, and crisis theory are some of Veblen's significant contributions to economic thought. The study utilised a literature review method, drawing on both domestic and foreign sources related to the subject. Particular emphasis was placed on examining Veblen's fundamental works, thereby striving to present the author's perspective directly and clearly. The findings reveal that Veblen was an economist ahead of his time who recognised the inadequacies of mainstream theory and significantly broadened the scope of economic thought with the new concepts he introduced to the literature and his reformist approach.
