“A Marxist Perspective on the Transformation of the Institution of Property in the Post-Neoliberal Era”ABSTRACT Property is one of the oldest social arrangements in human history and has evolved over time according to different economic, social, and legal systems. In ancient times, private property became more systematic, particularly with Roman Law, while in the Middle Ages, land ownership was shaped by feudal structures under the control of feudal lords. Following the Industrial Revolution, capital accumulation and the concentration of the means of production in the hands of private individuals led to a redefinition of property relations based on economic power. Today, property continues to exist as a multifaceted phenomenon, one that seeks to balance both individual rights and the public good. According to Marx, property has historically been shaped by control over the means of production and has been the fundamental determinant of class-based societies. Marx views private property as the fundamental structure of the capitalist system. In his critique of the structure of property, Marx emphasizes that means should not be held in single hands and that every individual should have equal access to them. According to Marx, the prerequisite for an egalitarian order is the abolition of private property and the introduction of a communist structure. Private property must be abolished so that every individual can use the means of production, a classless structure, and labor can be liberated. This study examines the evolution of the issue of property within the framework of Marx's thought. In this context, the neoliberal policies that emerged after the 1980s demonstrate that Marx's analyses remain valid. Although the structure Marx criticized for exploitation is based on the capitalism that emerged with industrialization in the 19th century, the system of exploitation persists today because the capitalist system dominates. Although forms of ownership have changed, the surplus value of the commodities produced during this period belongs to a single group. In the modern system, labor exploitation becomes an“invisible”structure. Ideology and hegemony have made the functioning of today's conditions more sophisticated. Marx's concept of dispossession has diversified, spread, and expanded in scope with new systems.
