Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of education provided to pregnant women based on Jean Ball's Deck-Chair Theory on postpartum quality of life and mental health. Material and Method: This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest matched control group between November 2023 and March 2024 at family health centers in the İvrindi and Balya districts of the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Health. The study population consisted of pregnant women registered at these centers, and the sample included a total of 103 pregnant women (intervention group n=53, control group n=50). In addition to routine postpartum care, the intervention group received education based on Jean Ball's Deck-Chair Theory during the 35th–37th weeks of pregnancy, while the control group received routine postpartum care. Data were collected using the Pregnancy Identification Form, Postpartum Identification Form, SF-12 Quality of Life Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21, WHO-5 Well-Being Index, and Postpartum Quality of Life Questionnaire. In data analysis, descriptive statistics and the chi-square test were used to check the homogeneity of the groups. The compliance of the data with normal distribution was checked separately for each group using the Shapiro-Wilk test; the independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test were used for normally distributed data. For non-normally distributed data, the Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were employed. The significance level was set at p<0.05. Findings: The sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics of the participants in the control and intervention groups were similar (p>0.05). During the first interview, there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the mean scores for depression, anxiety, WHO-5 Well-Being Index, and the physical component sub-dimension of the SF-12 Quality of Life Scale (p>0.05). The mean scores for stress and the mental component sub-dimension of the SF-12 Quality of Life Scale were found to be higher in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). After the intervention, the depression and anxiety scores of the intervention group were lower (p<0.05), and there was no difference in the mean stress scores between the groups (p>0.05). However, there was a significant decrease in the mean stress score of the intervention group following the application (p<0.05). Postpartum mean scores for the WHO-5 Well-Being Index were similar between the groups (p>0.05). In the intervention group, the mean score for the WHO-5 Well-Being Index was significantly higher after the application (p<0.05). The postpartum mean score of the Postpartum Quality of Life Questionnaire was found to be significantly higher in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that education provided to pregnant women based on Jean Ball's Deck-Chair Theory improves the mother's quality of life and mental health in the postpartum period.
