Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı, yapay zekâ destekli biyoloji öğretiminin fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının hücre elemanları ve hücre zarının yapısı ve işlevi konularındaki akademik başarıları üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir. Araştırma, nicel ağırlıklı bir yaklaşımla yürütülmüş; ana desen olarak ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2025-2026 eğitim-öğretim yılında iki devlet üniversitesinin fen bilgisi öğretmenliği programında öğrenim gören ve Biyoloji I dersini alan toplam 106 öğretmen adayı oluşturmuştur.
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of artificial intelligence-supported biology instruction on pre-service science teachers' academic achievement in the topics of cell components and the structure and function of the cell membrane. The study was conducted with a quantitatively oriented research approach, and a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed as the main research design. The study group consisted of 106 pre-service science teachers enrolled in the Science Education programs of two public universities and taking the Biology I course during the 2025-2026 academic year. Of the participants, 53 were assigned to the experimental group and 53 to the control group. While the experimental group received artificial intelligence-supported biology instruction, the control group continued with the existing instructional process. The implementation lasted four weeks, corresponding to a total of eight class hours. Quantitative data were collected through the Cell Achievement Test and the Cell Membrane Academic Achievement Test. The instructional materials used in the experimental group were supported with artificial intelligence-generated lesson plans, visual materials, conceptual explanations, and sample questions. Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted with pre-service teachers in the experimental group after the implementation. Independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test were used to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. The findings showed that the experimental and control groups had comparable academic achievement levels before the implementation. After the implementation, both groups demonstrated improvement in academic achievement; however, the post-test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group in both achievement tests. When the change scores were examined, the experimental group showed a higher increase in the Cell Achievement Test, but this difference did not reach statistical significance. In contrast, the increase in the Cell Membrane Academic Achievement Test was significantly higher in favor of the experimental group. The qualitative findings also indicated that pre-service teachers perceived artificial intelligence-supported visuals, conceptual explanations, and interactive activities as facilitating understanding, increasing interest, and supporting retention. However, participants also emphasized that artificial intelligence-supported materials should be used under teacher supervision and should be checked for scientific accuracy. The results suggest that artificial intelligence-supported biology instruction can provide effective support, particularly in teaching abstract, microscopic, and visually demanding biology topics.
