Özet

ÖZET Sözlük anlamı olarak müzikli anlatım demek olan müzikal, bale, opera, tiyatro, sirk, operet, kabare, dans gibi popüler eğlence şekillerinin hepsinden yararlanmaktadır. Yirminci yüzyılın son çeyreğinden itibaren, en popüler eğlence tiyatrosu formu haline gelen müzikal tiyatro, hiçbir zaman seyircinin derin ve içten duygularını kamçılamayı, çok önemli mesajlar vermeyi amaç edinmemiş olsa da seyircinin en fazla ilgisini çeken tür olmuştur. Balad opera, komik opera, pasticcio, minstral şov, vodvil, burlesk, revü, İngiliz komik opera, operet gibi formlar, müzikal tiyatro sahnelemelerinde bugün bile etkisini gösteren esin kaynaklandır. Müzikal tiyatronun gelişmesinde katkıları bulunan George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Julian Slade, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim gibi besteci ve lirik yazarlarının yanında Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cats, Starlight Express, Phantom Of The Opera, Jesus Chrisht Superstar gibi bestelediği mega müzikallerle yirminci yüzyılın son çeyreğine damgasını vurmuştur. John Napier, 1981 yılında Cats müzikaline yaptığı sahne tasarımıyla müzikaller dünyasında değişen şeyin sadece besteciler ve müzikaller olmadığını göstermiştir. Aldığı heykel ve sahne tasarımı eğitimlerinden etkilenerek Cats, Starlight Express, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon gibi mega müzikallere yaptığı tasarımlarıyla, sahne tasarımı dünyasına üç boyutlu bakış açısını getirmiştir. Kişiliğini, bir sanat dalı olarak gördüğü sahne tasarımına yansıtmayı başaran Napier, Royal Shakespeare Company'de uzun yıllar çalıştıktan sonra, Londra'da Central Saint Martins okulunda ders vermekte, sahne tasarımı çalışmalarını ise Londra kurduğu stüdyosunda sürdürmektedir.

ABSTRACT The real meaning of the word“musical”is performing drama with music. This type of acting includes many different styles such as ballet, opera, theatre, circus, operetta, cabaret and dancing. During the last quarter of the 20th century, Musicals became the most popular type of entertainment for the public. Although the Musical type of drama does not aim to bring out the emotions in people nor does aim to give them any meaningful messages, it has been the most interesting and popular type of entertainment for people. Ballad Opera, Comedy Opera, Pasticcio, Minstral Show, Vodvil, Burlesque, Revue, English Comedy Opera and Operetta are all influenciai styles seen in musical theatre even recently. George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Julian Slade, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim are some of the composers and lyric writers who helped the development of Musical Theatre. Among all these composers, Andrew Lloyd Webster was one of the most significant composers who composed the music for some of the greatest musical shows of all times including Cats, Starlight Express, Phantom Of The Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. Through these shows he stamped his name on for the last quarter of the 20th century's' Musical World. In 1981 John Napier, the stage designer of Cats Musical Show, provided the birth of a new perspective of stage design as well as a new style of music and lyrics. He gave a new aspect to musical stage design by using skills gained through his sculpture and stage design training. Napier was very successful at reflecting his personality in all of his stage designs. Stage design was some kind of art to him. After long years working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, he also started giving stage design lessons at Central Saint Martins School in London. He continues his stage design studies at his studio established in London. VIII
